Welcome to Exploring the Word. Yes, it is September 1st and it is a great day on this Tuesday. It's our day of prayer. But it's also a great day for one of our team members. Alex, today is Brent Austin's birthday and so we want to wish Brent a happy, happy, happy birthday. And rather, and for your birthday, I'm not going to sing to you. That makes you happy, Brent. Extra, extra.

>> Bert Harper: I appreciate you guys and it is, it's a joy to work with the team we have and we pray together. and it's a great group of guys that we have the privilege of working with and I thank God for them.
Alex: Matthew chapter 10 is a message of discipleship and mission work
Well, Alex, when we come to Matthew chapter 10 and you get to the end of, let me just share with you. This is not, make sure everybody know, this is not a message concerning sonship or, or evangelism. It is a message of discipleship and mission work. Because chapter 10 starts out with him sending the 12 out. Now he has a restricted area. It's to the children of Israel, but he still gives those instructions. But Alex, those instructions that he gives, there's still some great principles to follow today, aren't they?
>> Alex McFarland: Well, they really are. They really are. And the whole gospel, you know, in Matthew, there is so much in red. These are the words of Christ. And yesterday we were talking about how he warned, of coming persecutions. Verse 27 is so interesting. Jesus says to the disciples, and I think this applies to us today, and we'll talk about it whatever I tell you. In the dark, speak in the light and what you hear in the ear, preach on the housetops and literally, shout it from the housetops. And that's kind of a saying that we use even to this day. Do not fear those who kill the body, but cannot kill the soul, but rather fear him who is able to destroy both soul and body in hell. Now Bernt, in verse 27 of Matthew 10 where it talks about what God tells us in the dark, speak in the light. Don't you think that speaks about that we have time alone with God, that we are quiet before the Lord and we can hear the Lord and the things that we learn in our quiet times with the Lord, we're going to be able to use those out in our day to day life and ministry. And I've experienced that, that I'd be in the Word or on my knees in prayer and I just learned things of God and along life's journey. you can use those in ministry. But verse 27 speaks to the importance of our time alone before the Lord. Would you agree?
>> Bert Harper: I agree fully. Now I think dark is there alone and at nighttime. Yeah. But also in our dark days, days when it's difficult. And he speaks to us peace. and that's what he kind of does here. In verse, 26, 28 and 31, he uses the words fear not. Okay, now when is fear usually the greatest? as a kid I know it was, it was dark, man. It took me a while to overcome my fear of darkness. The one of the first things I did after I was saved as a 12 year old boy was, come on now, I lived in the country, so there's no street lights. And man, if the sun, if the moon wasn't shining, shining, it was dark around my house and I, I was always fearful to go out and I wanted to see if anything had really changed in my life. So I went out in the darkness and I could tell a difference. I knew God's peace was with me. I tell folks I did whistle, but I was whistling in the dark. But God's presence was there. And again in that time of my life, along with God, as you said, Alex. And in that darkness, literal darkness, God, God spoke to my heart and said, bert, I'm with you. And so Alex, I think that is true. I think that was a good analogy there. But notice the three do not fears, verse 26, do not fear them. Okay? Those that would come against you and Beelzebub and all of that, don't fear what men say to you. And then verse 28, do not fear those who are able to kill the body. What you want to do is have this healthy fear of God. And then in verse 31, in other words, word circumstances and difficulties come. Do not fear, therefore you're a greater value than a sparrow. So he ends this up. I think this is really good. As he goes into relationships and everything at the end of this chapter, he as they're going out and they're going to have obstacles, they're going to have difficulties. What does he say? Do not fear.
>> Alex McFarland: Do not fear.
>> Bert Harper: That's Alex, when God calls us out, we need to go forth with courage. Not courageous on our own. But as he said to Joshua, be of good courage. And so, Alex, this message on, as I said, discipleship and missions, it's a great message for those of us who have been called out to God to share the good news of Jesus Christ.
Psalm 16:7 says Jesus will help you through the night seasons
>> Alex McFarland: I know we got to move on, but commenting, on that, whatever I tell you in the dark, speak in the light. there's a verse. Psalm 16, verse 7. Now, listen to this, folks, because I. I would suspect many could relate to this. It says, I will bless the Lord who has given me counsel. My heart also instructs me in the night seasons.
>> Bert Harper: Amen.
>> Alex McFarland: Let me say you're right. Most children, many children are afraid of the dark, you know, and learning to sleep alone in your room, you know, children can be scared of the dark. it's not just quiet time before the Lord, but, there's. There's going to be what Psalm 16. 7 refers to as night seasons. But you know what? The Holy Spirit of God and the very presence of Jesus will be with you. God will guide you. God will give you counsel, and God will give you, the confidence and the courage. Not in and of ourselves, but just, and those of us that have walked with the Lord and we've. We've buried loved ones and we've paid the bills and we've gone through what the world would say is just, you know, the crushing pressures of life sometimes. Jesus will be with you through the night seasons. Jesus will help you in the dark, and you'll have a testimony and wisdom you can share in. The lot. 29 through 31 basically says, look, the hairs of your head are numbered. two little birds are sold for a copper coin, and not one bird falls to the ground without your Father's knowledge. And you're worth more than many sparrows. I mean, that's a saying that everybody knows about. a sparrow doesn't fall to the ground without God's knowledge and God's awareness of it. And yet we are so valuable to God. Of course he's going to shepherd you through the rough seas. Of course he's. If you'll allow it, he'll guide. Guide your hand through the dark times. And so I think that's very encouraging. And then it goes, Alex, before we
>> Bert Harper: leave that, let's go back to the hairs on your, head. He doesn't say the hairs on your. The hairs on your head are counted. They're numbered now. Okay? Counted means he knows how many you have not. I couldn't count but numbered has the idea. Each one of them has a number. And so when one falls out, he knows if he has that details and that knowledge of our lives, he knows what we're going through. Not counted, but numbered. and there is a difference in those words in the Greek language and the numbered ideas has. Yes, I know your number. Have you ever heard that? I've got your number. God has our number in a good way. He knows everything about us, even the hairs on our head.
>> Alex McFarland: Well, the stuff that's very meaningful to us and the things that we love are like that. You know, I've known people that restored, like, antiques or something. And very often the scratches in the wood and the different things are very precious to the one that's invested the time and the love to restore them. And God loves us that way. That's just one of the beautiful things about salvation is he forgives our sins. But I really do think that our life is like this beautiful tapestry of God's love, care, and redemption. And, yeah, even the hairs of our head are numbered. I mean, you think about something that's very precious to you. Well, you are that precious to God and 10,000 times more.
>> Bert Harper: Amen. Preach it, brother.
>> Alex McFarland: And famously, in verse 32, Jesus said, Therefore, whoever confesses me before men, him I will also confess before my Father who is in heaven. Whoever denies me before men, I will also deny before my Father who's in heaven. Maybe you've heard preachers in an altar call, you know, use this verse. If you stand up for Christ publicly, he'll stand up for you before the Father. And so there IS division in 34. And following ironically, and maybe some of the liberal, love, love, love preachers ought to read this. But Jesus said, do not think that I came to bring peace on earth. I did not come to bring peace, but a sword. For I've come to set a man against his father, a daughter against her mother, and a daughter in law against her mother in law. And a man's enemies will be those of his own household. we're going to come back to this. He who loves father or mother more than me is not worthy of me. And he who loves son or daughter more than me is not worthy of me. Verse 37. And he who does not take his cross and follow after me is not worthy of me. He who finds his life will lose it. But he who loses his life for my sake will find it. Okay, Bert, you know, the, the meek and lowly Jesus we've heard that preach people like you know, Harry Emerson Fosdick and Norman Vincent Peale, the gentle Jesus. but here Christ seems he says he's come to bring not peace, but a sword.

>> Alex McFarland: What is this about, Bert?
>> Bert Harper: Okay, I think you're supposed to take the whole chapter. And this is. Notice what he does here. He's sending them out. Mission. They're on mission for God. And he talks about if people receive you, you're to go to certain people. If they receive you, that's good, but you're going to have difficulties.
Alex: Jesus talks about confrontation in family relationships in chapter 10
You're. You're, they're wolves, but they're dressed in sheep's clothing. So there's going to be what? There's going to be this relationship that is going to be can, you know, challenged, and they're going to challenge you, and. And then it moves on to what they're going to say about you. Beelzebub. If they said that about Christ, they're going to say worse about you. So it goes on down in all of these relationships.
And.
>> Bert Harper: And then it talks about that word confess me, which means more than just words. It means agreeing with your words. It. It has the idea, in other words, you can say words all day long, but they're not that. They're not real. They're just words.
But.
>> Bert Harper: But when it's backed up by actions. Now he comes to this in family relationships, Alex, you see, the confrontation is going to be there. When you're on mission for God and God has called you out as a disciple of Christ, you're going to follow him. And that's going to put you at odds at certain times with certain individuals, with certain groups, and even in your own family members. And when that happens, and they are setting that up, it's not that he just does this, okay, I'm going to bring disorder to this family. No, because of our conviction, our confession of, following Jesus Christ, it sets this at odds. And yes, Jesus brought this about that he's going to bring this into our lives when we follow him. Well, we're going to be back and we're going to finish chapter 10 and go into chapter 11. You don't want to miss it because it continues to demonstrate that Jesus is the king of Kings.

If you have that prayer request or question, Alex? I agree. Praying. Look what Jesus did. He prayed with them. He. He prayed with his, disciples. He taught them to pray. And Jon 17, the great priestly prayer man. I'm telling you what. That if that doesn't move you a, as a follower, knowing that he has. He has prayed for us and is continuing to pray for us even today. So, yes, what a joy it is. And we're thankful for that lady who called in close to a year ago now and asked us to start a, day of prayer for their election that was coming up and it was so good, we said we're going to hold onto it and make Tuesdays a day of prayer. So I do not remember that lady's name, but I know God does. And she's done. She was a blessing by. And we thank God for it.
>> Alex McFarland: Amen. Amen.
Matthew 10:40-42 talks about the prophet's reward
You know, very often we mention how, common sayings or allusions come to us from the word of God. And one of those, I think, is in Matthew 10:40, 42, about giving a cup of cold water in the name of. Of Jesus by a disciple. I mean, that's just sort of. Then the technical word is idiom. Idiom, m or a saying or something. Well, Jesus is, this is wrapping up. And he says, you know, whoever receives you, receives me. And who receives me, receives him who sent me. Amen. He who receives a prophet in the name of a prophet shall receive a prophet's reward. And he who receives a righteous man in the name of a righteous man shall receive a righteous man's reward. Now, before we go to verse 42, I want to talk about this just a little bit. Bert, the. The prophets of old, Daniel, Jeremiah, Ezekiel, they serve God. They faithfully, obeyed their assignments. And we benefit. We've got what their writings were and we believe and preach those things. There's a lot in here about receiving, a prophet's reward. And I don't want to push this too far because only, only the Lord might know, but let me just say this. It is always beneficial to proclaim God's word. Isaiah 55 says God's word does not return void. And, what crowns Isaiah is going to get in heaven? That only God knows. But we share what God wrote through that prophet. Isaac Watts wrote some great Christmas songs from Isaiah's writings. And let me just say this. We don't. We don't keep score down here. We just walk the journey. But I'm going to tell you, there's a lot of fruit. There's a lot of reward. There's a lot of blessing, being in this great, great, long equation that we call the church age. Bert, you know, I've given away umpteen copies of Josh McDowell's book, more than a Carpenter. God's going to reward Josh and Dottie for their faithful service. But I guess I'm going to share in those rewards for using Josh's hard work to give out. And some people get saved. I don't know. Only God knows how it's all going to pan out. But here's the thing. We receive the righteous message. We tell people of the righteous savior. And know this. I mean, there is just such. Well, Adrian Rogers said more m hangs on our obedience than we could imagine. And I think that the great, ripple effect of our obedience is what 40 and 41 are talking about.
>> Bert Harper: I agree. Let me add to that. the rewards are Gordon B. Accordingly, accordingly. In other words, you're talking about Josh. is there a greater reward for him producing that than it is for someone else to share it? Well, you know, as you said it to begin with, only God knows. But God is going to give rewards accordingly. Okay. and he. And you can trust him. The prophet's reward, the righteous man's rewards are given a cold water, a cup of cold water in his name, accordingly. Now, will they be greater than I. I don't know. I just know he is going to do it. And he is the one that does it in a fair, just way. One more thing about the prophet's reward, Alex, and it really ties it in. Notice he finishes this. And Matthew puts it together, the prophet's reward. And then he moves to chapter 11 and started in verse two with Jon the Baptist, who was the greatest prophet.
>> Alex McFarland: Yeah.
>> Bert Harper: Do you catch, I mean, Matthew, ties this in so significantly under the inspiration of the Holy Spirit. And what Jesus says about Jon, this is looking ahead. There's none greater than Jon, that is ever proclaimed. And so he does it accordingly. Isaiah will get his, Jeremiah will get his. Malachi will get his. Jonah will get his. Jon the Baptist will get his, and you can trust him. So, Alex, when I, look at this. And look at this as a disciple following disciple on a mission for God, God takes notice. So be on mission for God. Let's not deviate from what he's told us to do in being faithful. Now, today we don't go to the Jews only. the Great Commission has. And Acts 1:8 says, Go into all the world. And it really does mean that, doesn't it?
>> Alex McFarland: It really does. It really does. Matthew 11 is a fascinating chapter. and, you know, like we've said, the, the biographies of Jesus, Matthew, Mark, Luke, and Jon, they. They have complementary details. We don't know that it's exactly, exactly sequential. This might seem like a kind of a parenthetical little statement because, you know, if you read Jon, chapter one, you know, of course, like you say, the greatest prophet, he had one almost like one foot on the Old Testament, one foot in the new. You know, they said there was this statue called the Colossus of Rhodes that had one foot, and the other foot was so far away that there was like a whole, you know, harbor between the statue's feet. It was one of the wonders of the ancient world. I think of Jon the Baptist that way. I mean, it's like he connected the Old Testament with the NewSong, the old covenant and the NewSong. And he said, behold the Lamb of God who takes away the sin of the world. Jon the Baptist is a towering figure on the stage of history. But his, followers come, and now Jon is in prison awaiting beheading by Herod.
Chapter 9 talks about Jesus threefold ministry, teaching, preaching and healing
>> Bert Harper: Alex, would you mind me sharing something real quick about verse one? Okay. Eleven, one. Okay. To me, it speaks to me, and I referred to it, but I want to emphasize it. Chapter 9, verse 35, talks about Jesus threefold ministry, teaching, preaching, and healing. Verse 35. Then he names these apostles, sends them out, gives them power over all diseases, over everything, and he gives them instructions. And then in chapter 11, notice what Jesus does here. And I think this is significant. Now, it came to pass when Jesus finished commanding his 12 disciples, that they departed from there. Okay, he departed from there. He, Jesus. And what did he do? Teach and preach? Oh, he left off the healing. I honestly believe there's significance here. He's saying, guys, I want you to be a part of this. And, yeah, as you go, you're going to share, share the gospel of the kingdom. But here, I've given you these instructions, and now I'm going to teach and preach. listen, we need to have the threefold ministry. I believe that with all my heart. But notice what he does here. His emphasis was teaching and preaching at this time because he had assigned the apostles to go out, heal, you know, those that. All that. That was taking up his time so much that he could not teach and preach. They're doing that so he can have the emphasis of doing the preaching and teaching. I just wanted to throw that in and Go ahead with Jon the Baptist, brother.
>> Alex McFarland: Beautiful, beautiful. Well, people are beginning to believe because if you read in Jon 6:14, After Christ fed, the 5,000 people were saying, truly, this is that prophet that should come into the world. And by the way, let me, Let me just say this. Forgive me for digressing just a moment, but, Jon 6:14 speaks of one called that prophet. This is really important because Genesis 49:10 talks about that prophet that would come. Now, Jesus is prophet, priest and king. I mean, he's the, he gives the word of God. He is the. The Messiah who is the. Not just a priest that goes between man to God. Jesus is the redeemer, the atonement, the Savior, the priest who reconciles man to God. And he certainly is the king who's coming to rule and reign victoriously. But Muslims say that Genesis 49:10, that prophet is, Muhammad. False. Absolutely 1,000% false. but anyway, there's a little bit of a reference here. When Jesus fed the 5000 and people are saying, the prophet has come, this messiah, savior that we've read about for centuries. Well, he's here now. What, what's interesting is at the beginning of Jesus's ministry, and we read about the baptism of Jesus performed by Jon the baptizer. At the beginning, many people didn't know, but Jon the Baptist did. Now, locked up in a prison,

>> Alex McFarland: outside do know. And Jon the Baptist apparently is. Is having a bit of a question. And the disciples came, are you him that should come, or do we look for another? Matthew 11:3. Jesus answered and said to them, go and tell Jon the things that you have heard and seen. The blind see and the lame walk and lepers are cleansed, and the dear, the deaf hear and the dead are raised, and the poor of the gospel preached to them. That's Isaiah 61. Blessed is he who is not offended because of me. Now, isn't that something? The word offended? don't be ashamed to say that you believe in Jesus, even if, people don't understand. Bert, I, think Matthew 11:6, don't deny Jesus, even if you're locked in a jail cell awaiting execution. I mean, this is heavy stuff. And Christ has said, listen, if you, take a stand for, for the Savior, it might divide your household. It might cost you some relationships.
Bert says Jesus is worthy of all the commitment we can possibly give
Now, Bert, there's a lot we could say, but Jesus is worthy of all the commitment we can possibly give. And he is worth any price it costs us to stand for Him.
>> Bert Harper: Amen. Now notice what he does Here. I love this here. Is Jon in prison? are you the one, or are we waiting for the another? Was I mistaken? I don't think it had any. It did not have anything to do with Jesus. It had everything to do with Jon. In other words, at this point, he was like unto Elijah. Guess what? Elijah was one of those guys that hid. Man, Rahab's going to get out. I got to get out of here, you know? So don't. Don't criticize Jon that much. And notice what he does right after he says that. From Isaiah, Jon, Jesus begins. Only word I know to build up, Jon as an individual. When it says, did you go into the wilderness to see a reed shaken by the wind? You didn't see that? That's nothing to see. Did you go out to see a man clothed in soft garments? You don't go out there to the wilderness. They're in king's houses. But what did you go out to see? A prophet. Okay, A prophet. Yes. I say to you more than a prophet, as you described, that this Old Testament, NewSong Testament guy, Jon the Baptist, for this is he of whom it is written. Behold, I send you my messenger before your face, who will prepare your way before me. Malachi 3:1. Assuredly I say to you, among those born of women, there was none risen one greater than Jon the Baptist. But he who is least in the kingdom of heaven is greater. None, of these are greater than he. And from the days of Jon the Baptist until now, the kingdom of heaven and suffers violence and the violent. Take it by force. For all the prophets and the law prophesied until Jon. And if you're willing to receive it, he is Elijah, who is to come.
Alex: I love how Matthew moves us in this teaching
Now, Alex, again, I love how this all fits together as Matthew moves us. Matthew moves. And I've seen it more in this teaching than I had the other times have gone through Matthew. But how he moves us to this point, how he moves from the prophet's reward to Jon the Baptist to Jon, saying, are, you the one? Or do we look for another? And then Jesus tells him, I am the one. But look what he does. He lets everybody know around him, Jon the Baptist is the guy that God sent before me. I think it's a great testimony, brother.
>> Alex McFarland: Well, it really is.

I do that and pray for them and I hope you do as well, but we had one. before you go to the phone lines, Alex, you'll handle that today. That Rhonda called in and said her 10 year old daughter Clementine was in a bike accident and has had to take her to the ER. That is right now. So we're praying for 10 year old Clementine, that everything, we don't know. Head bones, we don't know, but God does. But she said the ER right now and that's Clementine, Alex.

>> Speaker C: Hello, guys. I mean, I can see that this is Bible study for me since I can't go to church and I don't know why, but anyway, you know, like I'm open and everything, but anyway, this is why I called in. I called in because. One, because I was at the moment, the other.
>> Alex McFarland: yes, yes. continue please.
>> Speaker C: It was always at the moment. The other day and when I walked out, you know, for my bus and everything, you know, I had this drunk hit on the bench and he looks at me after a while and he said, do you have a problem with me? And I said no. And he got up and he said, yes, you do.
>> Bert Harper: Do you want us to pray for him, Stan?
>> Speaker C: Yes. it's my first. I want to say this, you know, like he started building me around and I said, I pray for you, like,
>> Alex McFarland: and he said, he said, I think we get it.
>> Bert Harper: Yeah, yeah, you're breaking up, Stan. We're sorry about that, but we got enough that we need to pray for you and that young man.
>> Alex McFarland: Yeah, there's, there's just a lot of rebellion and defiance. And, we need to pray for the Holy Spirit of God to move in the hearts of young people. And, Bert, there's just even sometimes a lack of respect for older people. and so I hear you there in Indiana. We're going to be praying for that situation.
Once saved, you're always saved, or can you lose your salvation

>> Bert Harper: Landa, let me answer this. and get your termin. Get our terminology right. If. If you're saved, you're always saved. If it's really in. Confession, as I said earlier, is more than with the mouth. It is with your whole mind, heart, will, all of that when you come to Christ. It is that. And he said, I, I have you. And he said, no one shall pluck you out of my hand. And. And I'm. I'm secure in that. But the key to this, Landa, is to make sure. I'll put it this way to you, Landon, to make sure you are saved. Has there been a time in your life when you just turned away from your ways and turned to Christ and asked him to be Lord of your life? Has he saved you?
>> Speaker C: That's right. Yes, sir.
>> Bert Harper: Well, if you've done that, I want to just tell you. And you. And it was real. you're secure in Christ, Alex. Add to that.
>> Alex McFarland: Amen. God bless you, brother. And, you know, I personally went through a time of struggling to have assurance of salvation. And, it was the word of God that made me realize that by trusting Christ, I am secure. It's based on the promises of His Word, not necessarily emotions that go up and down. But to everybody, let me encourage you to, you know, read, Jon, chapter three. Read Romans 4 and 5, and I think you'll get a lot of assurance for your salvation. God bless you and your walk and your growth with the Lord there, Landon.

>> Alex McFarland: Good. Welcome.
>> Speaker C: Thank you. Thank you. well, I have a prayer request. I've been out of prison for seven years, and I did 25 years. I've called a few times, Ben. I'm just hopeful to Try to go back in and do prison ministries. And, you know, I. I have found myself struggling because, you know, I do got to provide for a new family and so, so, so forth. I just. I just. That's my lane. I talked Bible studying there for 20 years. and I just. I'm just missing it. I'm missing dealing with those guys in there and, helping them have some understanding. For those that are listening, this program has been a wonderful relief to those men and women in prison. I'm, actually one that benefited from it. So please continue to assist, programs like this.
>> Bert Harper: Amen to me.
>> Alex McFarland: God bless you.
>> Bert Harper: Let me. Let me make a suggestion. I don't know if God's called you this, and it sounds like he has, man. I'm excited about it. Sometimes you have to start where you are, Alex, you know, and so, Demetrius, it may be a small, county or something that you start at that place. Another suggestion, Prison Fellowship is still around Demetrius, and you might find information there on how God could use you. Alex, you got anything else for Demetrius?
>> Alex McFarland: I think you're doing great there, brother. And like Bert said, you know, check out some of these existing works, and God can use you. And, you know, you don't have to reinvent the wheel. Look at some of those ministries, like he said, like Prison Fellowship or, you know, Teen Challenge, and see, you know, where you can get on board with others or where God has blessed you can, do something similar. It's a wonderful thing. God bless you.

>> Alex McFarland: yes.
>> Speaker C: I appreciate y' all taking my call. God. God bless you all. Yes, it's. It's. There's a. There's a pattern. Today, a prayer request that I have is, we're starting a ministry here. locally, where I'm at, I'm getting. I'm a school administrator, public schools here. And what I've seen as an assistant principal is a lot of kids struggling, a lot of kids without some hope, in their life. So I've. I've got. With our local court system here and juvenile probation office, and I'm going to start. I have a farm here locally, and I'm gonna, just pray that these kids are gonna. They're gonna start assigning these kids, to come out to the farm, and I'm gonna disciple them and administer them and. And try to change the trajectory of their life of where they're headed. so, And so it's. It's just God put this on me a few years ago. And there's, you know, just pray that God will use us and affect our youth.
>> Bert Harper: Amen, Brian. Amen. Praise God. We're going to pray. We're going to add all these up and pray. We're going to take a break and pray. Then we add those. We're going to do this as quickly as we can and make sure we get everything in. But, Alex, what a way to go. I know of some places in Alabama where that had started, and now there's ministries going on like that. And so we're going to be praying for Brian. How. How needed is this? Alex, you work with young people a lot. How needed is this?
>> Alex McFarland: Phenomenal. And like he said, changing the trajectory of these young lives. Bert, we got a lot of cause. Would you lead us for these prayer requests thus far?
>> Bert Harper: I will. Father. We come to you just praising your holy name for who you are. You are the way maker, Father. You are the pain taker. you are the promise keeper. You're the light in the darkness. And God, to every one of these, to Clementine at the emergency room, right now, help them know what to do, and may she be healed. We're praying, God, that you would just, bless Dennis right now, strengthen him, help him. We didn't able to take his call, but God, I saw the prayer, and I'm praying that you would help him, in his life. We're praying for Demetrius, Father, for you to open that door of ministry, with those that are incarcerated. And God, I pray that you would open that door. And then he's been equipped and, even equip him more to go in and share the word of God. And Father, we're praying for Brian. Thank you for these, your agents that you have in all areas in schools and, manufacturing. You have your agents there operating. And here is Brian, who has a burden and a heart, and he has a facility to make a difference. And, Father, bring that all together, and we're praying for great success. And we're praying for those young people that will, maybe have already been assigned and will be assigned that they would know Jesus and they would find a way of living that is far better than in rebellion in Jesus name. Amen.

>> Speaker C: Well, I am here, and thank you for those beautiful prayers. my prayer request today is for my mom. She's 106 and three quarters, and, she does not want to be 107. And she is ready for God to take her, but he continues to lead her. And I know we need to wait on his will and his timing, but she is just very, very, very uncomfortable. She is unable to get out of bed now. And, we have a lot of hospice workers to love, honor. And my family, we moved her to my house a year ago. And anyway, she's been around all the family. We've all loved on her, but it's just time for him to take her home.
>> Bert Harper: Amen. Wow.
>> Speaker C: I need some more warriors to hit the throne and tell him. Take it.
>> Bert Harper: I got a story tale. But what's her name? What's her name? Carol.
>> Speaker C: Huh? Pauline.
>> Bert Harper: Pauline. I went to pray for my wife's grandmother. Her name was Gertrude. I went to pray. She was 91 or 92. And I. She said, pray, I'll go home. And I started praying she'd get better, that doctors would know what to do. And she looked up at me and she said, I'm not talking about that home. I'm talking about the real home. So, Carol, I. I've heard that before. So we're going to PR for that. Alex, go ahead.
>> Alex McFarland: Amen. Father, let's, we agree together to pray for Pauline 106¾. Lord, what? This dear saint of God who has walked the journey, please take her home to yourself. And Lord, we pray for Carol the daughter as she ministers to her mom. And Lord, you know, the number of all of our days, whether it be we think short or we think long. But Lord, take, this dear saint into your presence and receive her. And, Lord, let it be an inspiration to the family left behind that they would all live for you as well. I've just got a simple prayer request. I say simple, but I've just been laid on my heart to pray for the people in Nepal and that flashflood that everybody went through and the one suffering from it. Well, and just, add that to your prayer list, please, sir.

>> Bert Harper: Father, our heart has broken us. We saw the visual of the mud, the water that was just overtaken buildings and people. Father, we know it's a thousand more that we know are long are gone has died. But Father, I pray that you would help those that are surviving, strengthen them, help them find the bodies of those they don't know about. And Father, for this team that's going, I pray you'd give them grace. I pray you'd give them courage and strength. Give them wisdom on where to start and what to do. And God, I know the others are there as well. And we're praying, God, that your will would be done and that people would be saved as they see you and your people caring, loving and sharing in Jesus name. Amen.

Father, in the name of Jesus, I ask that you would keep this woman alive physically till she could be born spiritually. When this son goes to share with his mother, or whether it be maybe she sees Billy Graham on TV or somebody comes in her hospital room. But Father, in Jesus name, please save this woman. Give her a hunger for you, Jesus, let her comprehend the gospel and in the name of Jesus, let her call out to you to be forgiven and saved. We pray, we thank you and we commit this to you and we believe you for a good outcome. In Jesus name I pray. Amen.

Welcome to Exploring the Word. Yes, it is September 1st and it is a great day on this Tuesday. It's our day of prayer. But it's also a great day for one of our team members. Alex, today is Brent Austin's birthday and so we want to wish Brent a happy, happy, happy birthday. And rather, and for your birthday, I'm not going to sing to you. That makes you happy, Brent. Extra, extra.
>> Alex McFarland: Happy, happy birthday, Brent Austin.
>> Bert Harper: I appreciate you guys and it is, it's a joy to work with the team we have and we pray together. and it's a great group of guys that we have the privilege of working with and I thank God for them.
Alex: Matthew chapter 10 is a message of discipleship and mission work
Well, Alex, when we come to Matthew chapter 10 and you get to the end of, let me just share with you. This is not, make sure everybody know, this is not a message concerning sonship or, or evangelism. It is a message of discipleship and mission work. Because chapter 10 starts out with him sending the 12 out. Now he has a restricted area. It's to the children of Israel, but he still gives those instructions. But Alex, those instructions that he gives, there's still some great principles to follow today, aren't they?
>> Alex McFarland: Well, they really are. They really are. And the whole gospel, you know, in Matthew, there is so much in red. These are the words of Christ. And yesterday we were talking about how he warned, of coming persecutions. Verse 27 is so interesting. Jesus says to the disciples, and I think this applies to us today, and we'll talk about it whatever I tell you. In the dark, speak in the light and what you hear in the ear, preach on the housetops and literally, shout it from the housetops. And that's kind of a saying that we use even to this day. Do not fear those who kill the body, but cannot kill the soul, but rather fear him who is able to destroy both soul and body in hell. Now Bernt, in verse 27 of Matthew 10 where it talks about what God tells us in the dark, speak in the light. Don't you think that speaks about that we have time alone with God, that we are quiet before the Lord and we can hear the Lord and the things that we learn in our quiet times with the Lord, we're going to be able to use those out in our day to day life and ministry. And I've experienced that, that I'd be in the Word or on my knees in prayer and I just learned things of God and along life's journey. you can use those in ministry. But verse 27 speaks to the importance of our time alone before the Lord. Would you agree?
>> Bert Harper: I agree fully. Now I think dark is there alone and at nighttime. Yeah. But also in our dark days, days when it's difficult. And he speaks to us peace. and that's what he kind of does here. In verse, 26, 28 and 31, he uses the words fear not. Okay, now when is fear usually the greatest? as a kid I know it was, it was dark, man. It took me a while to overcome my fear of darkness. The one of the first things I did after I was saved as a 12 year old boy was, come on now, I lived in the country, so there's no street lights. And man, if the sun, if the moon wasn't shining, shining, it was dark around my house and I, I was always fearful to go out and I wanted to see if anything had really changed in my life. So I went out in the darkness and I could tell a difference. I knew God's peace was with me. I tell folks I did whistle, but I was whistling in the dark. But God's presence was there. And again in that time of my life, along with God, as you said, Alex. And in that darkness, literal darkness, God, God spoke to my heart and said, bert, I'm with you. And so Alex, I think that is true. I think that was a good analogy there. But notice the three do not fears, verse 26, do not fear them. Okay? Those that would come against you and Beelzebub and all of that, don't fear what men say to you. And then verse 28, do not fear those who are able to kill the body. What you want to do is have this healthy fear of God. And then in verse 31, in other words, word circumstances and difficulties come. Do not fear, therefore you're a greater value than a sparrow. So he ends this up. I think this is really good. As he goes into relationships and everything at the end of this chapter, he as they're going out and they're going to have obstacles, they're going to have difficulties. What does he say? Do not fear.
>> Alex McFarland: Do not fear.
>> Bert Harper: That's Alex, when God calls us out, we need to go forth with courage. Not courageous on our own. But as he said to Joshua, be of good courage. And so, Alex, this message on, as I said, discipleship and missions, it's a great message for those of us who have been called out to God to share the good news of Jesus Christ.
Psalm 16:7 says Jesus will help you through the night seasons
>> Alex McFarland: I know we got to move on, but commenting, on that, whatever I tell you in the dark, speak in the light. there's a verse. Psalm 16, verse 7. Now, listen to this, folks, because I. I would suspect many could relate to this. It says, I will bless the Lord who has given me counsel. My heart also instructs me in the night seasons.
>> Bert Harper: Amen.
>> Alex McFarland: Let me say you're right. Most children, many children are afraid of the dark, you know, and learning to sleep alone in your room, you know, children can be scared of the dark. it's not just quiet time before the Lord, but, there's. There's going to be what Psalm 16. 7 refers to as night seasons. But you know what? The Holy Spirit of God and the very presence of Jesus will be with you. God will guide you. God will give you counsel, and God will give you, the confidence and the courage. Not in and of ourselves, but just, and those of us that have walked with the Lord and we've. We've buried loved ones and we've paid the bills and we've gone through what the world would say is just, you know, the crushing pressures of life sometimes. Jesus will be with you through the night seasons. Jesus will help you in the dark, and you'll have a testimony and wisdom you can share in. The lot. 29 through 31 basically says, look, the hairs of your head are numbered. two little birds are sold for a copper coin, and not one bird falls to the ground without your Father's knowledge. And you're worth more than many sparrows. I mean, that's a saying that everybody knows about. a sparrow doesn't fall to the ground without God's knowledge and God's awareness of it. And yet we are so valuable to God. Of course he's going to shepherd you through the rough seas. Of course he's. If you'll allow it, he'll guide. Guide your hand through the dark times. And so I think that's very encouraging. And then it goes, Alex, before we
>> Bert Harper: leave that, let's go back to the hairs on your, head. He doesn't say the hairs on your. The hairs on your head are counted. They're numbered now. Okay? Counted means he knows how many you have not. I couldn't count but numbered has the idea. Each one of them has a number. And so when one falls out, he knows if he has that details and that knowledge of our lives, he knows what we're going through. Not counted, but numbered. and there is a difference in those words in the Greek language and the numbered ideas has. Yes, I know your number. Have you ever heard that? I've got your number. God has our number in a good way. He knows everything about us, even the hairs on our head.
>> Alex McFarland: Well, the stuff that's very meaningful to us and the things that we love are like that. You know, I've known people that restored, like, antiques or something. And very often the scratches in the wood and the different things are very precious to the one that's invested the time and the love to restore them. And God loves us that way. That's just one of the beautiful things about salvation is he forgives our sins. But I really do think that our life is like this beautiful tapestry of God's love, care, and redemption. And, yeah, even the hairs of our head are numbered. I mean, you think about something that's very precious to you. Well, you are that precious to God and 10,000 times more.
>> Bert Harper: Amen. Preach it, brother.
>> Alex McFarland: And famously, in verse 32, Jesus said, Therefore, whoever confesses me before men, him I will also confess before my Father who is in heaven. Whoever denies me before men, I will also deny before my Father who's in heaven. Maybe you've heard preachers in an altar call, you know, use this verse. If you stand up for Christ publicly, he'll stand up for you before the Father. And so there IS division in 34. And following ironically, and maybe some of the liberal, love, love, love preachers ought to read this. But Jesus said, do not think that I came to bring peace on earth. I did not come to bring peace, but a sword. For I've come to set a man against his father, a daughter against her mother, and a daughter in law against her mother in law. And a man's enemies will be those of his own household. we're going to come back to this. He who loves father or mother more than me is not worthy of me. And he who loves son or daughter more than me is not worthy of me. Verse 37. And he who does not take his cross and follow after me is not worthy of me. He who finds his life will lose it. But he who loses his life for my sake will find it. Okay, Bert, you know, the, the meek and lowly Jesus we've heard that preach people like you know, Harry Emerson Fosdick and Norman Vincent Peale, the gentle Jesus. but here Christ seems he says he's come to bring not peace, but a sword.
What.
>> Alex McFarland: What is this about, Bert?
>> Bert Harper: Okay, I think you're supposed to take the whole chapter. And this is. Notice what he does here. He's sending them out. Mission. They're on mission for God. And he talks about if people receive you, you're to go to certain people. If they receive you, that's good, but you're going to have difficulties.
Alex: Jesus talks about confrontation in family relationships in chapter 10
You're. You're, they're wolves, but they're dressed in sheep's clothing. So there's going to be what? There's going to be this relationship that is going to be can, you know, challenged, and they're going to challenge you, and. And then it moves on to what they're going to say about you. Beelzebub. If they said that about Christ, they're going to say worse about you. So it goes on down in all of these relationships.
And.
>> Bert Harper: And then it talks about that word confess me, which means more than just words. It means agreeing with your words. It. It has the idea, in other words, you can say words all day long, but they're not that. They're not real. They're just words.
But.
>> Bert Harper: But when it's backed up by actions. Now he comes to this in family relationships, Alex, you see, the confrontation is going to be there. When you're on mission for God and God has called you out as a disciple of Christ, you're going to follow him. And that's going to put you at odds at certain times with certain individuals, with certain groups, and even in your own family members. And when that happens, and they are setting that up, it's not that he just does this, okay, I'm going to bring disorder to this family. No, because of our conviction, our confession of, following Jesus Christ, it sets this at odds. And yes, Jesus brought this about that he's going to bring this into our lives when we follow him. Well, we're going to be back and we're going to finish chapter 10 and go into chapter 11. You don't want to miss it because it continues to demonstrate that Jesus is the king of Kings.

And Jon 17, the great priestly prayer man. I'm telling you what. That if that doesn't move you a, as a follower, knowing that he has. He has prayed for us and is continuing to pray for us even today. So, yes, what a joy it is. And we're thankful for that lady who called in close to a year ago now and asked us to start a, day of prayer for their election that was coming up and it was so good, we said we're going to hold onto it and make Tuesdays a day of prayer. So I do not remember that lady's name, but I know God does. And she's done. She was a blessing by. And we thank God for it.

Matthew 10:40-42 talks about the prophet's reward
You know, very often we mention how, common sayings or allusions come to us from the word of God. And one of those, I think, is in Matthew 10:40, 42, about giving a cup of cold water in the name of. Of Jesus by a disciple. I mean, that's just sort of. Then the technical word is idiom. Idiom, m or a saying or something. Well, Jesus is, this is wrapping up. And he says, you know, whoever receives you, receives me. And who receives me, receives him who sent me. Amen. He who receives a prophet in the name of a prophet shall receive a prophet's reward. And he who receives a righteous man in the name of a righteous man shall receive a righteous man's reward. Now, before we go to verse 42, I want to talk about this just a little bit. Bert, the. The prophets of old, Daniel, Jeremiah, Ezekiel, they serve God. They faithfully, obeyed their assignments. And we benefit. We've got what their writings were and we believe and preach those things. There's a lot in here about receiving, a prophet's reward. And I don't want to push this too far because only, only the Lord might know, but let me just say this. It is always beneficial to proclaim God's word. Isaiah 55 says God's word does not return void. And, what crowns Isaiah is going to get in heaven? That only God knows. But we share what God wrote through that prophet. Isaac Watts wrote some great Christmas songs from Isaiah's writings. And let me just say this. We don't. We don't keep score down here. We just walk the journey. But I'm going to tell you, there's a lot of fruit. There's a lot of reward. There's a lot of blessing, being in this great, great, long equation that we call the church age. Bert, you know, I've given away umpteen copies of Josh McDowell's book, more than a Carpenter. God's going to reward Josh and Dottie for their faithful service. But I guess I'm going to share in those rewards for using Josh's hard work to give out. And some people get saved. I don't know. Only God knows how it's all going to pan out. But here's the thing. We receive the righteous message. We tell people of the righteous savior. And know this. I mean, there is just such. Well, Adrian Rogers said more m hangs on our obedience than we could imagine. And I think that the great, ripple effect of our obedience is what 40 and 41 are talking about.
>> Bert Harper: I agree. Let me add to that. the rewards are Gordon B. Accordingly, accordingly. In other words, you're talking about Josh. is there a greater reward for him producing that than it is for someone else to share it? Well, you know, as you said it to begin with, only God knows. But God is going to give rewards accordingly. Okay. and he. And you can trust him. The prophet's reward, the righteous man's rewards are given a cold water, a cup of cold water in his name, accordingly. Now, will they be greater than I. I don't know. I just know he is going to do it. And he is the one that does it in a fair, just way. One more thing about the prophet's reward, Alex, and it really ties it in. Notice he finishes this. And Matthew puts it together, the prophet's reward. And then he moves to chapter 11 and started in verse two with Jon the Baptist, who was the greatest prophet.
>> Alex McFarland: Yeah.
>> Bert Harper: Do you catch, I mean, Matthew, ties this in so significantly under the inspiration of the Holy Spirit. And what Jesus says about Jon, this is looking ahead. There's none greater than Jon, that is ever proclaimed. And so he does it accordingly. Isaiah will get his, Jeremiah will get his. Malachi will get his. Jonah will get his. Jon the Baptist will get his, and you can trust him. So, Alex, when I, look at this. And look at this as a disciple following disciple on a mission for God, God takes notice. So be on mission for God. Let's not deviate from what he's told us to do in being faithful. Now, today we don't go to the Jews only. the Great Commission has. And Acts 1:8 says, Go into all the world. And it really does mean that, doesn't it?
>> Alex McFarland: It really does. It really does. Matthew 11 is a fascinating chapter. and, you know, like we've said, the, the biographies of Jesus, Matthew, Mark, Luke, and Jon, they. They have complementary details. We don't know that it's exactly, exactly sequential. This might seem like a kind of a parenthetical little statement because, you know, if you read Jon, chapter one, you know, of course, like you say, the greatest prophet, he had one almost like one foot on the Old Testament, one foot in the new. You know, they said there was this statue called the Colossus of Rhodes that had one foot, and the other foot was so far away that there was like a whole, you know, harbor between the statue's feet. It was one of the wonders of the ancient world. I think of Jon the Baptist that way. I mean, it's like he connected the Old Testament with the NewSong, the old covenant and the NewSong. And he said, behold the Lamb of God who takes away the sin of the world. Jon the Baptist is a towering figure on the stage of history. But his, followers come, and now Jon is in prison awaiting beheading by Herod.
Chapter 9 talks about Jesus threefold ministry, teaching, preaching and healing
>> Bert Harper: Alex, would you mind me sharing something real quick about verse one? Okay. Eleven, one. Okay. To me, it speaks to me, and I referred to it, but I want to emphasize it. Chapter 9, verse 35, talks about Jesus threefold ministry, teaching, preaching, and healing. Verse 35. Then he names these apostles, sends them out, gives them power over all diseases, over everything, and he gives them instructions. And then in chapter 11, notice what Jesus does here. And I think this is significant. Now, it came to pass when Jesus finished commanding his 12 disciples, that they departed from there. Okay, he departed from there. He, Jesus. And what did he do? Teach and preach? Oh, he left off the healing. I honestly believe there's significance here. He's saying, guys, I want you to be a part of this. And, yeah, as you go, you're going to share, share the gospel of the kingdom. But here, I've given you these instructions, and now I'm going to teach and preach. listen, we need to have the threefold ministry. I believe that with all my heart. But notice what he does here. His emphasis was teaching and preaching at this time because he had assigned the apostles to go out, heal, you know, those that. All that. That was taking up his time so much that he could not teach and preach. They're doing that so he can have the emphasis of doing the preaching and teaching. I just wanted to throw that in and Go ahead with Jon the Baptist, brother.
>> Alex McFarland: Beautiful, beautiful. Well, people are beginning to believe because if you read in Jon 6:14, After Christ fed, the 5,000 people were saying, truly, this is that prophet that should come into the world. And by the way, let me, Let me just say this. Forgive me for digressing just a moment, but, Jon 6:14 speaks of one called that prophet. This is really important because Genesis 49:10 talks about that prophet that would come. Now, Jesus is prophet, priest and king. I mean, he's the, he gives the word of God. He is the. The Messiah who is the. Not just a priest that goes between man to God. Jesus is the redeemer, the atonement, the Savior, the priest who reconciles man to God. And he certainly is the king who's coming to rule and reign victoriously. But Muslims say that Genesis 49:10, that prophet is, Muhammad. False. Absolutely 1,000% false. but anyway, there's a little bit of a reference here. When Jesus fed the 5000 and people are saying, the prophet has come, this messiah, savior that we've read about for centuries. Well, he's here now. What, what's interesting is at the beginning of Jesus's ministry, and we read about the baptism of Jesus performed by Jon the baptizer. At the beginning, many people didn't know, but Jon the Baptist did. Now, locked up in a prison,

>> Alex McFarland: outside do know. And Jon the Baptist apparently is. Is having a bit of a question. And the disciples came, are you him that should come, or do we look for another? Matthew 11:3. Jesus answered and said to them, go and tell Jon the things that you have heard and seen. The blind see and the lame walk and lepers are cleansed, and the dear, the deaf hear and the dead are raised, and the poor of the gospel preached to them. That's Isaiah 61. Blessed is he who is not offended because of me. Now, isn't that something? The word offended? don't be ashamed to say that you believe in Jesus, even if, people don't understand. Bert, I, think Matthew 11:6, don't deny Jesus, even if you're locked in a jail cell awaiting execution. I mean, this is heavy stuff. And Christ has said, listen, if you, take a stand for, for the Savior, it might divide your household. It might cost you some relationships.
Bert says Jesus is worthy of all the commitment we can possibly give
Now, Bert, there's a lot we could say, but Jesus is worthy of all the commitment we can possibly give. And he is worth any price it costs us to stand for Him.
>> Bert Harper: Amen. Now notice what he does Here. I love this here. Is Jon in prison? are you the one, or are we waiting for the another? Was I mistaken? I don't think it had any. It did not have anything to do with Jesus. It had everything to do with Jon. In other words, at this point, he was like unto Elijah. Guess what? Elijah was one of those guys that hid. Man, Rahab's going to get out. I got to get out of here, you know? So don't. Don't criticize Jon that much. And notice what he does right after he says that. From Isaiah, Jon, Jesus begins. Only word I know to build up, Jon as an individual. When it says, did you go into the wilderness to see a reed shaken by the wind? You didn't see that? That's nothing to see. Did you go out to see a man clothed in soft garments? You don't go out there to the wilderness. They're in king's houses. But what did you go out to see? A prophet. Okay, A prophet. Yes. I say to you more than a prophet, as you described, that this Old Testament, NewSong Testament guy, Jon the Baptist, for this is he of whom it is written. Behold, I send you my messenger before your face, who will prepare your way before me. Malachi 3:1. Assuredly I say to you, among those born of women, there was none risen one greater than Jon the Baptist. But he who is least in the kingdom of heaven is greater. None, of these are greater than he. And from the days of Jon the Baptist until now, the kingdom of heaven and suffers violence and the violent. Take it by force. For all the prophets and the law prophesied until Jon. And if you're willing to receive it, he is Elijah, who is to come.
Alex: I love how Matthew moves us in this teaching
Now, Alex, again, I love how this all fits together as Matthew moves us. Matthew moves. And I've seen it more in this teaching than I had the other times have gone through Matthew. But how he moves us to this point, how he moves from the prophet's reward to Jon the Baptist to Jon, saying, are, you the one? Or do we look for another? And then Jesus tells him, I am the one. But look what he does. He lets everybody know around him, Jon the Baptist is the guy that God sent before me. I think it's a great testimony, brother.

That Rhonda called in and said her 10 year old daughter Clementine was in a bike accident and has had to take her to the ER. That is right now. So we're praying for 10 year old Clementine, that everything, we don't know. Head bones, we don't know, but God does. But she said the ER right now and that's Clementine, Alex.

>> Speaker C: Hello, guys. I mean, I can see that this is Bible study for me since I can't go to church and I don't know why, but anyway, you know, like I'm open and everything, but anyway, this is why I called in. I called in because. One, because I was at the moment, the other.
>> Alex McFarland: yes, yes. continue please.
>> Speaker C: It was always at the moment. The other day and when I walked out, you know, for my bus and everything, you know, I had this drunk hit on the bench and he looks at me after a while and he said, do you have a problem with me? And I said no. And he got up and he said, yes, you do.
>> Bert Harper: Do you want us to pray for him, Stan?
>> Speaker C: Yes. it's my first. I want to say this, you know, like he started building me around and I said, I pray for you, like,
>> Alex McFarland: and he said, he said, I think we get it.
>> Bert Harper: Yeah, yeah, you're breaking up, Stan. We're sorry about that, but we got enough that we need to pray for you and that young man.
>> Alex McFarland: Yeah, there's, there's just a lot of rebellion and defiance. And, we need to pray for the Holy Spirit of God to move in the hearts of young people. And, Bert, there's just even sometimes a lack of respect for older people. and so I hear you there in Indiana. We're going to be praying for that situation.
Once saved, you're always saved, or can you lose your salvation
Stan, let's go to Mississippi. Landon in Mississippi. Welcome to exploring the Word.
>> Speaker C: Hey, thanks, y', all for having me.
>> Alex McFarland: Yes. What you got, Landon?
>> Speaker C: I was just gonna ask what y' all thoughts were on once saved, always saved, or can you lose your salvation?
>> Bert Harper: Landa, let me answer this. and get your termin. Get our terminology right. If. If you're saved, you're always saved. If it's really in. Confession, as I said earlier, is more than with the mouth. It is with your whole mind, heart, will, all of that when you come to Christ. It is that. And he said, I, I have you. And he said, no one shall pluck you out of my hand. And. And I'm. I'm secure in that. But the key to this, Landa, is to make sure. I'll put it this way to you, Landon, to make sure you are saved. Has there been a time in your life when you just turned away from your ways and turned to Christ and asked him to be Lord of your life? Has he saved you?
>> Speaker C: That's right. Yes, sir.
>> Bert Harper: Well, if you've done that, I want to just tell you. And you. And it was real. you're secure in Christ, Alex. Add to that.
>> Alex McFarland: Amen. God bless you, brother. And, you know, I personally went through a time of struggling to have assurance of salvation. And, it was the word of God that made me realize that by trusting Christ, I am secure. It's based on the promises of His Word, not necessarily emotions that go up and down. But to everybody, let me encourage you to, you know, read, Jon, chapter three. Read Romans 4 and 5, and I think you'll get a lot of assurance for your salvation. God bless you and your walk and your growth with the Lord there, Landon.

>> Alex McFarland: Good. Welcome.
>> Speaker C: Thank you. Thank you. well, I have a prayer request. I've been out of prison for seven years, and I did 25 years. I've called a few times, Ben. I'm just hopeful to Try to go back in and do prison ministries. And, you know, I. I have found myself struggling because, you know, I do got to provide for a new family and so, so, so forth. I just. I just. That's my lane. I talked Bible studying there for 20 years. and I just. I'm just missing it. I'm missing dealing with those guys in there and, helping them have some understanding. For those that are listening, this program has been a wonderful relief to those men and women in prison. I'm, actually one that benefited from it. So please continue to assist, programs like this.
>> Bert Harper: Amen to me.
>> Alex McFarland: God bless you.
>> Bert Harper: Let me. Let me make a suggestion. I don't know if God's called you this, and it sounds like he has, man. I'm excited about it. Sometimes you have to start where you are, Alex, you know, and so, Demetrius, it may be a small, county or something that you start at that place. Another suggestion, Prison Fellowship is still around Demetrius, and you might find information there on how God could use you. Alex, you got anything else for Demetrius?
>> Alex McFarland: I think you're doing great there, brother. And like Bert said, you know, check out some of these existing works, and God can use you. And, you know, you don't have to reinvent the wheel. Look at some of those ministries, like he said, like Prison Fellowship or, you know, Teen Challenge, and see, you know, where you can get on board with others or where God has blessed you can, do something similar. It's a wonderful thing. God bless you.

>> Alex McFarland: yes.
>> Speaker C: I appreciate y' all taking my call. God. God bless you all. Yes, it's. It's. There's a. There's a pattern. Today, a prayer request that I have is, we're starting a ministry here. locally, where I'm at, I'm getting. I'm a school administrator, public schools here. And what I've seen as an assistant principal is a lot of kids struggling, a lot of kids without some hope, in their life. So I've. I've got. With our local court system here and juvenile probation office, and I'm going to start. I have a farm here locally, and I'm gonna, just pray that these kids are gonna. They're gonna start assigning these kids, to come out to the farm, and I'm gonna disciple them and administer them and. And try to change the trajectory of their life of where they're headed. so, And so it's. It's just God put this on me a few years ago. And there's, you know, just pray that God will use us and affect our youth.
>> Bert Harper: Amen, Brian. Amen. Praise God. We're going to pray. We're going to add all these up and pray. We're going to take a break and pray. Then we add those. We're going to do this as quickly as we can and make sure we get everything in. But, Alex, what a way to go. I know of some places in Alabama where that had started, and now there's ministries going on like that. And so we're going to be praying for Brian. How. How needed is this? Alex, you work with young people a lot. How needed is this?
>> Alex McFarland: Phenomenal. And like he said, changing the trajectory of these young lives. Bert, we got a lot of cause. Would you lead us for these prayer requests thus far?
>> Bert Harper: I will. Father. We come to you just praising your holy name for who you are. You are the way maker, Father. You are the pain taker. you are the promise keeper. You're the light in the darkness. And God, to every one of these, to Clementine at the emergency room, right now, help them know what to do, and may she be healed. We're praying, God, that you would just, bless Dennis right now, strengthen him, help him. We didn't able to take his call, but God, I saw the prayer, and I'm praying that you would help him, in his life. We're praying for Demetrius, Father, for you to open that door of ministry, with those that are incarcerated. And God, I pray that you would open that door. And then he's been equipped and, even equip him more to go in and share the word of God. And Father, we're praying for Brian. Thank you for these, your agents that you have in all areas in schools and, manufacturing. You have your agents there operating. And here is Brian, who has a burden and a heart, and he has a facility to make a difference. And, Father, bring that all together, and we're praying for great success. And we're praying for those young people that will, maybe have already been assigned and will be assigned that they would know Jesus and they would find a way of living that is far better than in rebellion in Jesus name. >> Speaker C: Well, I am here, and thank you for those beautiful prayers. my prayer request today is for my mom. She's 106 and three quarters, and, she does not want to be 107. And she is ready for God to take her, but he continues to lead her. And I know we need to wait on his will and his timing, but she is just very, very, very uncomfortable. She is unable to get out of bed now. And, we have a lot of hospice workers to love, honor. And my family, we moved her to my house a year ago. And anyway, she's been around all the family. We've all loved on her, but it's just time for him to take her home.
>> Bert Harper: Amen. Wow.
>> Speaker C: I need some more warriors to hit the throne and tell him. Take it.
>> Bert Harper: I got a story tale. But what's her name? What's her name? Carol.
>> Speaker C: Huh? Pauline.
>> Bert Harper: Pauline. I went to pray for my wife's grandmother. Her name was Gertrude. I went to pray. She was 91 or 92. And I. She said, pray, I'll go home. And I started praying she'd get better, that doctors would know what to do. And she looked up at me and she said, I'm not talking about that home. I'm talking about the real home. So, Carol, I. I've heard that before. So we're going to PR for that. Alex, go ahead.
>> Alex McFarland: Amen. Father, let's, we agree together to pray for Pauline 106¾. Lord, what? This dear saint of God who has walked the journey, please take her home to yourself. And Lord, we pray for Carol the daughter as she ministers to her mom. And Lord, you know, the number of all of our days, whether it be we think short or we think long. But Lord, take, this dear saint into your presence and receive her. And, Lord, let it be an inspiration to the family left behind that they would all live for you as well. I've just got a simple prayer request. I say simple, but I've just been laid on my heart to pray for the people in Nepal and that flashflood that everybody went through and the one suffering from it. Well, and just, add that to your prayer list, please, sir.

>> Alex McFarland: Oh, one thing, Bert, I got to tell you this. We have major listeners near Fort Bragg Rockfish Church Pastor Tony McVickers, major listeners to Exploring the Word in AFR. And I know many of the Rockfish folks are listening. In fact, you and I were in Fayetteville.
>> Bert Harper: Yeah.
>> Alex McFarland: Seven, eight years ago, in front of several thousand people. They are in Nepal right now for 21 days ministering, where in fact, ah, Pastor Tony McVickers. And I. We talked last Friday. He got on a plane Saturday. And so I, want to get to Jon, but Bert, would you pray for that?
>> Bert Harper: I will.
>> Alex McFarland: situation, and also the team of people from North Carolina.
>> Bert Harper: Father, our heart has broken us. We saw the visual of the mud, the water that was just overtaken buildings and people. Father, we know it's a thousand more that we know are long are gone has died. But Father, I pray that you would help those that are surviving, strengthen them, help them find the bodies of those they don't know about. And Father, for this team that's going, I pray you'd give them grace. I pray you'd give them courage and strength. Give them wisdom on where to start and what to do. And God, I know the others are there as well. And we're praying, God, that your will would be done and that people would be saved as they see you and your people caring, loving and sharing in Jesus name. Amen.

>> Speaker C: Yes. thank you, guys. have a friend or a fellow man in a Bible study whose mother has gone ill and is not saved. And he's having a conversation with her on Friday. So just pairing for discernment and words encourage for him and that her heart will be open to, what he has to say.
>> Alex McFarland: Amen. Amen, Jon. Thank you. Let me pray for this. Burton, I'll throw it to you. Father, in the name of Jesus, Jon's friend in a Bible study, and the mother needs to be saved. Father, in the name of Jesus, I ask that you would keep this woman alive physically till she could be born spiritually. When this son goes to share with his mother, or whether it be maybe she sees Billy Graham on TV or somebody comes in her hospital room. But Father, in Jesus name, please save this woman. Give her a hunger for you, Jesus, let her comprehend the gospel and in the name of Jesus, let her call out to you to be forgiven and saved. We pray, we thank you and we commit this to you and we believe you for a good outcome. In Jesus name I pray. Amen.
