Pastor Jeff Schreve: Well, good Tuesday morning and welcome to Real Truth for today. Pastor Jeff street here wanted to read to you from Psalm 33, a familiar verse of scripture. Psalm 33, verse 12. Blessed is the nation whose God is the Lord. All right, I just hear music. And then, Psalm 33, verse 12, Blessed is the nation whose God is the Lord. And then Jeremiah, chapter 2, verse 11. Has this, this insight? Has a nation changed gods when they were not gods, but my people have changed their glory for that which does not profit? You know, in America, we have, the foundings on the principles of scripture and the founding fathers, the vast, vast majority of them, according to David Barton, 95% of them were Bible believing Christians. Jon Adams said, we've devised a constitution that was for a moral and religious people. It's wholly inadequate for the governance of any other. But, it seems like in America we are trying to get away from m God's will, God's word, God's ways. And, it is. It has devastating results. Well, we want to talk about the midterm elections today, and it's my privilege to welcome Walker Wildmon, Vice president and spokesman for American Family association and CEO of AFA Action, co host of the The Core here on American Family Radio. Walker, welcome to the program.
Walker Wildmon: Hey, Jeff, glad to be on the program with you.
Pastor Jeff Schreve: Well, I gotta tell you, Walker, I like your intro. You, walk in right at the music and, it felt like I was meeting with Clint Eastwood. He's showing up at the at the gunfight just cool as a cucumber.
Walker Wildmon: Hey, I'm ready to talk politics. Ready to talk elections.
Pastor Jeff Schreve: Okay, so, the midterms tend to not get the, attention that the main election gets every four years when we vote for president. But, tell us why the midterms this year are so important.
Walker Wildmon: Yeah, I, posted about this a couple weeks ago on Facebook and did a segment on it on my show. But, we really can choose the path of continuing to, open doors of righteousness for government and society, or we can close those doors and go, towards, in my opinion, the path of unrighteousness and ultimately judgment. And let me explain why. people may look at the Trump administration. They may look at Republicans in Congress, they may roll their eyes and say, well, they're not doing much, or there's still so many other problems up there, they're not fixing them fast enough, or they'll throw out the buzzword affordability, even though that's a very subjective thing, depending on your income level. but the fact of the matter is, is that the Trump administration, and even Congress to some degree, has been doing very good things for society, for culture, and for our country. we can talk economics. I know right now nobody wants to say that we're doing good economically when they're paying $5 a gallon at the pump. but this is a season that we're in due to the Iran conflict, that will subside and it will go away. and the alternative, is socialism and is the Democrat Socialist of America, which is de facto running the Democrat Party. So, the alternative to what we have now is very, very bad for our country. our freedoms would be immediately compromised and, at risk here. And so, the Trump administration has made a lot of progress on many areas. President Trump has appointed dozens of federal judges that agree with the Constitution, that agree with originalism and protecting our rights. despite what people say about the economy, the data actually shows the economy is doing pretty good. we keep getting positive jobs numbers. people are. If you're, especially in the, construction or the manufacturing, industry that's booming, we're having a manufacturing renaissance right now. wage growth is on the increase. It's outpacing inflation. So there's a lot of good things on the horizon. But on the, on the. To the contrary, you've got a lot of doomsayers. If you listen to too many podcasts, then you think that the world's burning. but. But right now, we're on a trajectory of economic prosperity. We're on a trajectory that if you want to work hard, earn a good living and help your family succeed, you can do that. The alternative is communism and socialism, which, leads to human, suffering on mass scales as we've seen throughout human history. So pretty much, Jeff, that's what's at stake on the ballot.
Pastor Jeff Schreve: Well, I, wanted to play this clip, Walker. Robert Jeffress kicked off on Thursday. You know, we had a Wednesday, Thursday rally, a Republican rally in Dallas, Texas. And Jack Graham was Wednesday kicking off with prayer. And Robert Jeffress was Thursday. And this is what, Jeffress had to say. Just, really, I think a good summation of who you have and what you have when you vote Republican, what you have and who you have when you vote Democrat.
: We all need the forgiveness that Jesus Christ came to offer for us. But ladies and gentlemen, there is a difference between falling into sin, which we all do from time to time. There's a difference between falling into sin and being an advocate for sin, an advocate for evil. And ladies and gentlemen, the Democrat Party are advocates for evil. They are advocates for sin, and we
Pastor Jeff Schreve: need to call it that way. he just called a spade a spade. That's what they're doing. And when Christians, foolishly vote blue, that's what you're doing. You're voting for sin.
Walker Wildmon: Yeah. This is not a hard, in my opinion, a hard decision when you know all the facts. And the fact is, is that this, this current administration has been the most pro faith, pro family administration, in my lifetime, even very much competing or in some cases, outpacing Reagan as well. and you look at the caliber of people within the administration, I mean, these are very qualified people of integrity, many of them Christians, born again believers in the administration. And they are working to move this country in a good direction here. And so that's where we are now. And I want to also give people a little bit of optimism on the other side of this Iran conflict. The markets and the economy, they're already doing well even with this Iran pressure and the energy pressure that we're having. you get on the other side of this, things are going to be gangbusters under the last two years of the Trump administration. So that's on the optimistic side, on the other side of this. And we'll be free of Iranian terror. They've been wreaking havoc in the Middle east for decades. I mean, this was. No, we weren't singing Kumbaya before this. And then now we're, you know, we're in a pickle. Iran, was wreaking havoc in the region and around the world for decades leading up to this. So this was long overdue what President Trump is doing with Iran. but the Democrats are, shouldn't be within 1,000 miles of power. I mean, that's my opinion, because of their worldview. It's very wicked, it's very evil. They're the Abortion On Demand party, They're the Socialist party. They want to redistribute everyone's wealth and tax us into oblivion. and that's just not a sustainable path to go for our country.
Pastor Jeff Schreve: Amen to that. Okay, Walker, I want to talk to you about I Voter Guide for our listeners who may be unfamiliar with ivoterguide, ivoterguide.com how is that different from typical, you know, platform paraphernalia, that people put out, say, well, this is where the candidates stand on this issue. That issue.
Walker Wildmon: Yeah. So I tell people, ivoterguide, if many of you have heard of it, if not, ivoterguide.com is the URL. And I'll mention that a couple more times before the end of the segment. But the I Voter Guide is the best voter guide in the country. And that's a statement I'm very confident in saying. And here's why. Pastor Jeff Schreve: All right, let me ask you this, Walker. we have, 435 House seats and 33 Senate seats on the ballot. Which ones do you consider the most critical?
Walker Wildmon: Well, the House of Representatives. the way things have been gerrymandered and the way the districts have been drawn for both sides, both parties, it's very. There's only probably 12 to 15 that are, that are in play, and those are scattered throughout the country that are going to be more competitive. The rest of them are pretty much a lock, whether it's Democrat or Republican. On the Senate side, this is the one that I think is going to be more interesting to watch because the US Senate president needs the president. Trump needs the Senate to approve executive branch nominees and judicial nominees the last two years of his presidency. And those are very important because the judges serve lifetime appointments on the federal judiciary. And, we have a, Republicans have an opportunity to flip Georgia. Remember, Georgia now has two Democrat senators. Who would have thought that maybe ten years ago? the Texas race is going to be interesting to watch. The pollsters say it's, it's a nail biter. I'll believe it when I see it because they've told us for 10 years that Democrats are going to flip Texas and they never do. and then Michigan, is going to be an interesting U.S. senate race as well. Maine, they say Maine's going to be competitive. I don't think it's going to be. I think Susan Collins has that locked in. She's an incumbent there. so Whether on the U.S. senate side, you got Georgia, you have Michigan, you have Texas and a few others. Alaska, they say, is interesting to watch, but I think Republicans can pretty safely secure the U.S. senate and keep it with a 53, 47 majority, or maybe even 54, 47. The House, races, in my opinion, are going to be the closest ones. you know, you could, Democrats could take it by one or two seats, or Republicans could keep it by one or two seats. but that one's going to. The U.S. house races are going to be more of a nail biter.
Pastor Jeff Schreve: Okay, Walker. It's been very disappointing to me personally and I know to many others around the country, conservatives, that we couldn't pass the Save America Act. Yeah, I don't get that.
Walker Wildmon: Yeah, that's bizarre. and it doesn't make sense. I mean, there's just, even when you factor in special interest and lobbyists who's the one lobbying to have illegal voting here on the Republican side. And so I don't know what it is. I mean, I really can't put my finger on it other than the fact that Washington just doesn't like to get a lot done. I mean, that's pretty much a theme here, is that Washington doesn't like to get a lot done, especially when it comes to monumental legislation. There's almost this fear of being too successful. and so that's very, very disappointing. I am a little optimistic on the, on further cutting taxes for the Republicans because they have the opportunity to do reconciliation, which needs a simple majority. And instead of this, this talk about a $5,000 stimulus check or whatever you want to call it, dividend payment. Look, I think we need to cut the income tax for working families. That's what I think we need to do. I don't think we need to be sending checks to anybody. That's inflationary. It's socialism. I think we need to be lowering taxes for hard working Americans and especially incentivizing marriage and family through a lower federal income tax rate. That's what Republicans can do with a simple majority. That's what they need to do. And I've encouraged President Trump multiple times on my program. We need to pivot away from this. We're going to send you money to, we're going to cut your taxes. That needs to be the talking point.

It says this God is our refuge and strength, a very present help in trouble. Therefore we will not fear. God is our refuge and strength, a, very present help in trouble. He's abundantly available to help when you're in trouble. So therefore we will not fear. And the psalmist says, we will not fear even though the earth should change and though the mountains slip into the heart of the sea. Boy, that would be terrifying. Though its waters roar and foam, though the mountains quake at its swelling pride. We don't need to be afraid, no matter what's going on in life. I just got a text from my good friend Roger Javins and Charlotte. Gino, who's a faithful listener to our program, is having a test done today. And he said, pray for Charlotte because, she's having this at 9 o' clock today. And so we do want to pray for Charlotte and that the Lord would just give her peace. You know, one of the verses that I use a lot with, with people when they tell me, hey, I got this going on or that going on, and they're in very stressful situations is Isaiah, 26:3. And you will keep him in perfect peace, whose mind is stayed on you because he trusts in you. Now that is a verse we talk about. Name it and claim it. You've heard that before, that idea. Name it and claim it. Whatever you want. You just name it and claim it in Jesus name and it's yours. that is unbiblical. You can't name it and claim it. But when God names it, then you can claim it when God gives a promise. Acts chapter 2. The promise is for you and your children and all who are far off, as many as the Lord our God shall call to himself when God gives a promise. 2nd Corinthians 1. As many as may be the promises of God in him, in Jesus they are yes. Wherefore also by him is our amen to the glory of God through us. We say amen to God's promises. We say, let it be so. Lord, God gives a promise. It's like giving you a check. And what do you do when someone gives you a check? You endorse the check and cash the check. Our amen is our, Cashing of the check, our signing our name, to the bottom of that check or to the back of that check, endorsing the check and getting it cashed. And so we can trust God, and we can bring our needs before the Lord, and we can say, lord, you promised. Isaiah 26, verse 3. And you will keep him in perfect peace, whose mind is stayed on you because he trusts in you. And you can say, lord, I trust you, and Lord, this is what you said. You said that you would keep me in perfect peace. You know, Isaiah 26:3 is less well known by many Christians than is Philippians 4. Be anxious for nothing, but in everything by prayer and supplication, with thanksgiving, let your request be made known to God and the peace of God. The eirene, is the Greek word the erin, which means, a calmness, a tranquility, and the peace of God, which surpasses all comprehension, shall guard your hearts and minds in Christ Jesus. You know, we don't need to fear so many fear nots in the Bible. The famous phrase is 365 fear nots in the Bible. One for every day of the year. I think that's, kind of a guesstimate. I've, done some research on that. I don't think they're actually 365, but it's obvious. It's over and over and over and over again. God says, do not fear. Don't be afraid. worry about nothing. Be anxious for nothing. Jesus said, consider the lilies. They don't toil or spin. the birds of the heaven don't freak out. they just trust their Father. They. Well, not their father. They trust the Creator to provide for them. And so, we need to trust our Father to provide for us. If God provides for the birds, if he provides for the flowers, then he'll provide for us. Are you not worth much more than they owe men of little faith? Of course we are. We're worth so much to God. You know, you tell, the value of something by what someone is willing to pay for it. And, he who did not spare his own son, Romans 8:32. He who did not spare his own son, but delivered him up for us all, how will he not also with him freely give us all things? Hey, what are you facing today in life? You know, many people are facing health issues and they got a bad report. And, you know, when you go to the doctor, I was thinking about, one of my dear, dear friends, staff, member at our church, Ada Ferguson. Who's in heaven now. And she was having some indigestion problems. She goes to the doctor and she finds out she has stage four pancreatic cancer. Well, if you know anything about cancer, pancreatic is one of the worst. And typically they don't find it until it's stage through stage four. And at that time they can't do anything about it. It's too big. They can't, do surgery to fix it. If you find it early, you can do that Whipple procedure. and then you have a good, good opportunity to live a long life. But if you don't and it's stage four, it's a tough go and you're going to be battling until the end. And you know, if that's six months, a year, year and a half, whatever it might be. But, you know, life can really turn on a dime. We mention m that and many of us, hopefully all of us, if we're honest, we understand that and we know that things can change. Just boom, just like that, you get a phone call, your loved one was in an accident. You get that report at the doctor, just like Ada did, go in for indigestion. Hey, you have stage four pancreatic cancer. There's nothing we can do. And, you know, I give you two years max to live. You get that kind of a note. You go to your place of business and they say, hey, we're cutting back and I'm sorry, but we're going to have to lay you off. Things can, the bottom can drop out of life very quickly. And in that situation, we need to live every day is just surrender to the Lord. Whatever. Lord, I'm reporting for duty. I'm yours. I've been bought with a price and I want to glorify God in my body. But we just, we come to the Lord and we're surrendered to the Lord and we say, lord, here I am, Lord, all that I am, Lord, I belong to you. And whatever you bring into my life, I know this. Nothing comes into my life that does not first filter through your fingers of love. Because the devil can't get at you, he can't get at me, unless God lets down the hedge. The book of Job tells us that where Job said, I can't get at Job because you have a hedge about him, and God has to let down the hedge. And, the God who controls the hedge is the God who loves you. And he loves me. He has nail scars in his hands. He didn't spare his own Son. And, he delivered him up for us all. So we can trust him and we can just know that, when you pass through the waters, as the Lord says in Isaiah 43, when you pass through the waters, I will be with you. And through the rivers, they will not overflow you. When you walk through the fire, you will not be scorched, nor will the flame burn you. For I am the Lord your God, the Holy One of Israel, your Savior. Listen, we are here. And remember this, because you might be listening and you might be going through a really, really tough time in. Maybe it's physical, maybe it's relational, maybe it's financial, Whatever it might be, and you're very, very afraid right now. Just know this. God has allowed these things to come into your life. And God wants to use your life to be a witness of his grace, of his mercy, of his kindness, of his love. And when you as a Christian go through difficulties, and when I, as a Christian, go through difficulties, and we're still praising God, and we're still trusting God, and we're still, looking to him, and our hope is still in him. Ah, as we say with Job, though he slay me, yet will I trust in him that makes such a difference to a lost and dying world. Because they see that and they say, how in the world is this person able to look at these issues in life, look at these circumstances, and not just fold up like a jackknife and not just say, I'm done. follow the advice of Mrs. Job, curse God and die. How do they still have joy? How do they still have hope? Well, here's how you have hope. Romans 15:13. Now may the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace in believing that you may abound in hope by the power of the Holy Spirit. I think every Christian ought to memorize Romans 15:13. God is the God of hope. I remember a class I took in seminary, and, my professor was saying, hey, when people come in, to talk to the pastor, the main thing you can give. And this is true in counseling, this is true in preaching the word of God. You want to always give them hope, because God is the God of hope. And you can preach a hard sermon, about the devastating effects of sin, but you end that sermon with hope. Here's the thing. You may have fallen into terrible, horrible sin. You may have done some terrible, horrible things, as David said in 2nd Samuel, chapter 12, when Nathan the prophet, busted him and said, you're the man. David said, I have sinned. And he didn't say that in a flippant way. He said that from a broken heart. And, Nathan the prophet said, God has taken away your sin. You shall not die. There are consequences. The child born to you is going to die. There are consequences for that sin. But God still loves you. God can forgive you for that. God can restore you. David said in Psalm 12, 13, 14. Two of, my favorite verses. I would have despaired unless I had believed that I would see the goodness of the Lord in the land of the living. Wait for the Lord. Be strong and let your heart take courage. Yes, wait for the Lord. God's timing is not your timing. We want things to be done immediately. We want to pray and have immediate answers to our prayers. But, lots of times, answers to our prayers take time. I still remember my friend Rich Holcomb said, when you pray, God is working and he's hearing our prayers. I love the Lord because he hears my voice and my supplications, because he has inclined his ear to me. Therefore I shall call upon him as long as I live. Psalm 116, verses 1 and 2. So God does hear us call to me, and I will answer you and show you great and mighty things which you do not know. Jeremiah 33, 3. But God is at work. And so when we pray for things, God says, I hear that prayer, and I need to work some things out to bring that to pass. And God works on the person, God works on the place. God works on the particulars. God gets, everything in alignment. You know, Joseph had a dream in Genesis 37 that, his brothers were going to bow down to him. They didn't like that dream. But, God gave him that dream. And the fulfillment of that dream didn't come, right away. It came years and years and years later. And Joseph had to go through the fiery furnace, so to speak. He had to go through terrible times of testing. The Bible tells us in the book of Psalms that, Joseph was, made a slave. And the word of the Lord tested him. And God had to put him in the fire to burn off the dross. You know, it says in Malachi, chapter three, that he, will sit as a smelter of silver. And a smelter of silver puts it in the fire to burn off the dross. So that, it is pure silver. And you get rid of all the impurities. Well, the Lord does that. He sits as a purifier of silver, of gold. And, as Job said, when he has tried me, I will Come forth as gold. And God is using these negative circumstances, these difficulties in your life, my life, and, hey, bigger picture, in our country and in our world, God is using those things. Nothing is out of his control. The Lord sat as king at the flood. The Lord sits as king forever. Psalm 29, verse 10, verse 11. I'm going off memory there. And, God is in charge, so we don't need to fear. God is our refuge and strength, a very present help in trouble. Therefore, we will not fear. Well, you're listening to Real Truth for today. We've been talking this last segment about, dealing with fear. God is our refuge and strength. A, ah, very present help in trouble. He's a boy, abundantly available for help when you're in trouble. When I'm in trouble. When we're in trouble. So therefore, we will not fear. We don't need to be afraid. As Jesus told Jairus, who said, come help me. My daughter is sick to the point of death. And as they were traveling, they said, don't bother the teacher anymore. Your child is dead. And Jesus told him, fear not only believe. And then he raised her from the dead. You remember when you face impossible situations, impossible really just means I'm possible with God. Because with God, nothing is impossible. Now, God doesn't do your will. He doesn't do my will. He does his will. And we pray, not my will, as Jesus prayed. Not my will, but yours, Father be done. And his will is good and acceptable and perfect. You can improve on the perfect will of God. So we pray according to God's will. God, we want what you want. Now, we can bring our needs before the Lord, and we can come before the Lord. We need healing. We need this. We need that. We need our marriage transformed. We need our children. We need their lives to come to the place of brokenness and, to come to their senses if they're prodigals. Just like the prodigal came to his senses and returned to his Father. It's a picture of salvation. And we can pray those things. And let me encourage you. Keep praying God's word back to him. Claim those problems. Name it and claim it. No, but if God names it, then you can claim it, and you can say, lord, I'm claiming this because you promised. Now, one of the great things in scripture, Exodus 34, when the Lord tells Moses who he is, when he declares his glory, his splendor, who he is, the Lord, the Lord, compassionate and gracious, slow to anger and abounding in loving kindness and truth, who keeps loving kindness for thousands, who forgives iniquity, transgression, and sin, you'll find that that is repeated over and over and over in Scripture. Moses prays that back to the Lord. even Jonah, when he's fleeing from the Lord, he quotes that to the Lord. Read Jonah, chapter four and see, Lord, I didn't want to come here to Nineveh because I knew that you are compassionate and gracious, and I didn't want you to be compassionate and gracious to the Ninevites. Sure wanted him to be compassionate and gracious to him when he was swallowed by the great fish in chapter two. But he wanted, God to fry the Ninevites. And he didn't understand that God is a God of mercy and grace and love, and God responds to repentance. So pick up the phone and give me a call. 888-589-8840. Caroline: Good morning. I'm telling you, sir, I get so blessed. The scriptures. I mean, you say these scriptures, and I think all of us are like, oh, yeah, okay. this morning, first of all, that scripture, I will keep him at perfect peace. His mind, heart is stayed on me. That's a scripture. Recently, he has spoken to me, and I'm sharing that with people. And, you know, it's our mind and our heart that need to connect together. That I just wanted to share that. But what I really called for is, I've told you that my Friends and I pray for the nation every Wednesday. And this is foundational scripture. And this is what I want to do share this morning. It's in Psalm 89. and it's, 14 and 15. And there's another scripture, but I'm going to do this with verse. Righteousness and justice are the foundation of the throne. Okay. And then you go to Amos 5:14. But let justice flow like water and righteousness like an unfailing stream. This is one of our key scriptures that we use to pray for this nation. And I just, you know, I just wanted to share that with you because I thought what. What words? Righteousness and justice are the foundation of this throne.
Caroline: Yes.
Pastor Jeff Schreve: Yeah, I like that. so righteousness and justice are the foundation of your throne. Loving kindness and truth go before you. So those are the big four. Righteousness, justice, loving kindness, and truth. And God is the God where those things uphold his throne. And, they're just who he is. He's righteous. He's just. He's loving and kind. And he's a God of truth, as the Bible says about Jesus. He was full of grace and truth. We like to see that he's full of grace, but we kind of don't really like the truth part. So many of us. But God is a God of truth. And, real love does not rejoice in unrighteousness, but rejoices with the truth. 1 Corinthians 13, verse 6. And so how do we treat the issues of our day? How do we treat people? We treat them with love. But we love them enough to tell them the truth. And we don't rejoice in their sin. We don't rejoice in their unrighteousness, because real love doesn't do that. So thank you, Linda. I appreciate that. We have Rebecca on the line from Arkansas. Caroline: Hey, Jeff, thank you so much. I love those other psalms that have been mentioned. I pray for my family. Psalms 19:71, repeatedly. I just love it. and. But the real reason I called was I went to the midterm convention last weekend.
Pastor Jeff Schreve: Oh, did you? Good.
Caroline: Yes. I met some wonderful people from Texas. Precinct leaders. they just, you know, were wonderful, but some speakers, especially the ones running from Texas for the House, and of course, Ken Paxton, who's made mistakes in his life.
Pastor Jeff Schreve: Sure.
Caroline: But I think he would be wonderful in the Senate and other speakers, people who are running for office in the other states. Oh, I think it'll be a wonderful election if Christians can just get out there and vote and take people with them and, family and friends. There are good people running that could turn things around for our country.
Pastor Jeff Schreve: Right. Well, the famous quote, you know, all that's necessary for evil to triumph is for good people to do nothing. And if we don't have Christians going to the polls and voting for righteousness and justice and truth, we're. We have no one to blame but ourselves. It was Ronald Reagan. I played a clip last week, and he said, you know, this is from years and years ago when he was kind of in his prime. But he said we have the most to lose, because as Walker Wildmon said, I mean, the choice is very, very clear. If you vote for a Democrat at this stage of the game, therefore socialism, and you're voting for socialism, which will bring misery, untold misery to the masses. It will be so destructive. If you love people, really love people, and love them in truth, you don't want that for them. You definitely, as a, as a father, as a grandfather, as a great grandfather, and you, know, same thing is true for, mothers and grandmothers and great grandmothers. You don't want that for your kids, for your grandkids, for your great grandkids. And so we want to hand them the baton of freedom and that America would still be that, that city on a hill. So I appreciate that, Rebecca. And it looked like a great time there in, Big D. And so I'm glad that you were able to go. Who is your favorite speaker? Just curious.
Caroline: Oh, man. I guess President Trump. I loved him that first night. He just seemed so warm and loving. I think it was one of his best speeches. And then, of course, having to swear the second night to, you know, raising our right hands and swearing to vote and to take friends and family with us to vote, then other things, but so help me God. And when he said, tongue in cheek now, you'll go to hell if you don't do it.
Pastor Jeff Schreve: Yeah, people. People, on the left definitely don't get his humor. they want to skewer him for really anything and everything. If he breathes air, it's wrong. Well, I appreciate you call, Rebecca, and we do. We want to encourage people. Get out there and vote. Bring people with you and vote. And if we, if we wake up and we say, hey, this is important, and we're going to do what we can do as believers to make a difference in our country, and voting is one important way, we want to do that, so God bless you. Caroline: Hey, Jeff, thank you for having me. want to just say appreciate what you do and speaking the truth always.
Pastor Jeff Schreve: Thank you.
Caroline: It's uncomfortable. And, I called in about a year ago. You and your wife were talking about marriage, and, you know, and that was a great show that you had. You know, our marriage was broken, and by the grace of God, it's. It's been repaired, and it's. It's being repaired.
Pastor Jeff Schreve: Good.
Caroline: And so we celebrated 25 years of that. So there's. I want to tell everybody there's hope there.
Pastor Jeff Schreve: All right.
Caroline: There's not. with. With that being said, my question is this. And I think a lot of men have this question on their mind, you know, with everything going on in our country, especially with the. With the darkness of Islam, and the evil that represents, and not saying that everybody that's a Muslim is evil, you know, with that. But their. Their directive. and, you know, we're talking about not to be anxious for anything. I guess the biggest question that keeps resounding in my mind, I keep asking God, as I have a lot of questions, is it at what point in time does concern in action? You know, what. What point time does it turn from that or to anxiousness? And, you know, it, other than. Than praying to God. You know, our founding fathers finally took action at a certain point. Yeah. in history and World War II. And so, you know, I got confusion there. And I think there's a lot of men out there, I may be wrong, that are saying, hey, you know, we need to be more active, obviously. We need to pray more obviously. But want to get your. Your opinion on that.
Pastor Jeff Schreve: Yeah. Well, if you go back, if you're thinking in terms of, you know, when do you take up arms and that kind of thing. you know, kind of like the American Revolution or the Civil War. that's a, That's a really, really difficult question. I think at this stage, you know, we. We pray, we, speak up, we vote, we get involved. We have Christians run for office. We let our voice be heard. We stand our ground, regardless of the cost of that. If I lose friends, if I lose my job, if I lose my freedom, they put me in jail for it. If I lose my life. You know, you think about Shadrach, Meshach and Abednego and Daniel. They made a huge impact. Daniel, I believe that he, was the principal, person that God used to lead Nebuchadnezzar. To a saving knowledge of the Lord. you read Nebuchadnezzar's testimony in Daniel chapter four. Well, I mean, I think you are going to see Nebuchadnezzar in heaven. And he was a wicked, wicked king. And so they didn't try and topple Babylon, they weren't grabbing, swords and going after them, but they broke down Babylon through their consistency, through their witness, through their prayers, through their resolve and conviction. In Daniel 3, when Nebuchadnezzar was having this big day with his golden image and all this stuff, well, it turned because of three guys who wouldn't bend, they wouldn't bow, they wouldn't burn, as the song said, everything flipped and it became a day to honor the God of Shadrach, Meshach and Abednego. So I think that Jon, we are at the stage now where we, as Christians, we need to wake up, we need to know what's going on. We need to be informed. Walker Wildmon is exactly right. When you look at the facts of our two party political system and you see, okay, neither party is, you know, the Apostle Paul is not running as a Republican. He's definitely not running as a Democrat. so who do I vote for? Do I vote for the lesser of two evils? Well, the answer would be yes, you, have to do that. It's always a situation, with that because you're voting for people and people are flawed. But you have two party platforms. As I played that clip from Robert Jeffress, you know, it's the difference between voting for sinners, people who fall into sin and are ashamed of it, versus people who champion sin. You can't vote for a party whose platform is straight from Romans chapter one, the sins of Romans chapter one. Who platforms sin? Who champions sin? You can't say, yeah, I'm putting my weight behind that group group, because that group is anti scripture. It's anti God, his word, his will, his ways. And so we cannot support that. And we need to get good and godly people in office and then pray for those people. It's not an easy job. It's difficult. There's a lot of pressure. And pray for our pastors to really stand up and step up and speak up and not be afraid. And if you, if you tick some people off in the church because you're speaking the truth in love, so be it. But we need to stand up and be counted. So I appreciate that Jon, I appreciate your call and It's a good question. I'm going to have to consider that some more. Maybe talk to, my friend Bill Federer about that. What would trigger that kind of a response? Ah, as it did in our history, so. Well, God bless you. Pastor Jeff Schreve: Well, good Tuesday morning and welcome to Real Truth for today. Pastor Jeff street here wanted to read to you from Psalm 33, a familiar verse of scripture. Psalm 33, verse 12. Blessed is the nation whose God is the Lord. All right, I just hear music. And then, Psalm 33, verse 12, Blessed is the nation whose God is the Lord. And then Jeremiah, chapter 2, verse 11. Has this, this insight? Has a nation changed gods when they were not gods, but my people have changed their glory for that which does not profit? You know, in America, we have, the foundings on the principles of scripture and the founding fathers, the vast, vast majority of them, according to David Barton, 95% of them were Bible believing Christians. Jon Adams said, we've devised a constitution that was for a moral and religious people. It's wholly inadequate for the governance of any other. But, it seems like in America we are trying to get away from m God's will, God's word, God's ways. And, it is. It has devastating results. Well, we want to talk about the midterm elections today, and it's my privilege to welcome Walker Wildmon, Vice president and spokesman for American Family association and CEO of AFA Action, co host of the The Core here on American Family Radio. Walker, welcome to the program.
Walker Wildmon: Hey, Jeff, glad to be on the program with you.
Pastor Jeff Schreve: Well, I gotta tell you, Walker, I like your intro. You, walk in right at the music and, it felt like I was meeting with Clint Eastwood. He's showing up at the at the gunfight just cool as a cucumber.
Walker Wildmon: Hey, I'm ready to talk politics. Ready to talk elections.
Pastor Jeff Schreve: Okay, so, the midterms tend to not get the, attention that the main election gets every four years when we vote for president. But, tell us why the midterms this year are so important.
Walker Wildmon: Yeah, I, posted about this a couple weeks ago on Facebook and did a segment on it on my show. But, we really can choose the path of continuing to, open doors of righteousness for government and society, or we can close those doors and go, towards, in my opinion, the path of unrighteousness and ultimately judgment. And let me explain why. people may look at the Trump administration. They may look at Republicans in Congress, they may roll their eyes and say, well, they're not doing much, or there's still so many other problems up there, they're not fixing them fast enough, or they'll throw out the buzzword affordability, even though that's a very subjective thing, depending on your income level. but the fact of the matter is, is that the Trump administration, and even Congress to some degree, has been doing very good things for society, for culture, and for our country. we can talk economics. I know right now nobody wants to say that we're doing good economically when they're paying $5 a gallon at the pump. but this is a season that we're in due to the Iran conflict, that will subside and it will go away. and the alternative, is socialism and is the Democrat Socialist of America, which is de facto running the Democrat Party. So, the alternative to what we have now is very, very bad for our country. our freedoms would be immediately compromised and, at risk here. And so, the Trump administration has made a lot of progress on many areas. President Trump has appointed dozens of federal judges that agree with the Constitution, that agree with originalism and protecting our rights. despite what people say about the economy, the data actually shows the economy is doing pretty good. we keep getting positive jobs numbers. people are. If you're, especially in the, construction or the manufacturing, industry that's booming, we're having a manufacturing renaissance right now. wage growth is on the increase. It's outpacing inflation. So there's a lot of good things on the horizon. But on the, on the. To the contrary, you've got a lot of doomsayers. If you listen to too many podcasts, then you think that the world's burning. but. But right now, we're on a trajectory of economic prosperity. We're on a trajectory that if you want to work hard, earn a good living and help your family succeed, you can do that. The alternative is communism and socialism, which, leads to human, suffering on mass scales as we've seen throughout human history. So pretty much, Jeff, that's what's at stake on the ballot.
Pastor Jeff Schreve: Well, I, wanted to play this clip, Walker. Robert Jeffress kicked off on Thursday. You know, we had a Wednesday, Thursday rally, a Republican rally in Dallas, Texas. And Jack Graham was Wednesday kicking off with prayer. And Robert Jeffress was Thursday. And this is what, Jeffress had to say. Just, really, I think a good summation of who you have and what you have when you vote Republican, what you have and who you have when you vote Democrat.
: We all need the forgiveness that Jesus Christ came to offer for us. But ladies and gentlemen, there is a difference between falling into sin, which we all do from time to time. There's a difference between falling into sin and being an advocate for sin, an advocate for evil. And ladies and gentlemen, the Democrat Party are advocates for evil. They are advocates for sin, and we
Pastor Jeff Schreve: need to call it that way. he just called a spade a spade. That's what they're doing. And when Christians, foolishly vote blue, that's what you're doing. You're voting for sin.
Walker Wildmon: Yeah. This is not a hard, in my opinion, a hard decision when you know all the facts. And the fact is, is that this, this current administration has been the most pro faith, pro family administration, in my lifetime, even very much competing or in some cases, outpacing Reagan as well. and you look at the caliber of people within the administration, I mean, these are very qualified people of integrity, many of them Christians, born again believers in the administration. And they are working to move this country in a good direction here. And so that's where we are now. And I want to also give people a little bit of optimism on the other side of this Iran conflict. The markets and the economy, they're already doing well even with this Iran pressure and the energy pressure that we're having. you get on the other side of this, things are going to be gangbusters under the last two years of the Trump administration. So that's on the optimistic side, on the other side of this. And we'll be free of Iranian terror. They've been wreaking havoc in the Middle east for decades. I mean, this was. No, we weren't singing Kumbaya before this. And then now we're, you know, we're in a pickle. Iran, was wreaking havoc in the region and around the world for decades leading up to this. So this was long overdue what President Trump is doing with Iran. but the Democrats are, shouldn't be within 1,000 miles of power. I mean, that's my opinion, because of their worldview. It's very wicked, it's very evil. They're the Abortion On Demand party, They're the Socialist party. They want to redistribute everyone's wealth and tax us into oblivion. and that's just not a sustainable path to go for our country.
Pastor Jeff Schreve: Amen to that. Okay, Walker, I want to talk to you about I Voter Guide for our listeners who may be unfamiliar with ivoterguide, ivoterguide.com how is that different from typical, you know, platform paraphernalia, that people put out, say, well, this is where the candidates stand on this issue. That issue.
Walker Wildmon: Yeah. So I tell people, ivoterguide, if many of you have heard of it, if not, ivoterguide.com is the URL. And I'll mention that a couple more times before the end of the segment. But the I Voter Guide is the best voter guide in the country. And that's a statement I'm very confident in saying. And here's why. Pastor Jeff Schreve: All right, let me ask you this, Walker. we have, 435 House seats and 33 Senate seats on the ballot. Which ones do you consider the most critical?
Walker Wildmon: Well, the House of Representatives. the way things have been gerrymandered and the way the districts have been drawn for both sides, both parties, it's very. There's only probably 12 to 15 that are, that are in play, and those are scattered throughout the country that are going to be more competitive. The rest of them are pretty much a lock, whether it's Democrat or Republican. On the Senate side, this is the one that I think is going to be more interesting to watch because the US Senate president needs the president. Trump needs the Senate to approve executive branch nominees and judicial nominees the last two years of his presidency. And those are very important because the judges serve lifetime appointments on the federal judiciary. And, we have a, Republicans have an opportunity to flip Georgia. Remember, Georgia now has two Democrat senators. Who would have thought that maybe ten years ago? the Texas race is going to be interesting to watch. The pollsters say it's, it's a nail biter. I'll believe it when I see it because they've told us for 10 years that Democrats are going to flip Texas and they never do. and then Michigan, is going to be an interesting U.S. senate race as well. Maine, they say Maine's going to be competitive. I don't think it's going to be. I think Susan Collins has that locked in. She's an incumbent there. so Whether on the U.S. senate side, you got Georgia, you have Michigan, you have Texas and a few others. Alaska, they say, is interesting to watch, but I think Republicans can pretty safely secure the U.S. senate and keep it with a 53, 47 majority, or maybe even 54, 47. The House, races, in my opinion, are going to be the closest ones. you know, you could, Democrats could take it by one or two seats, or Republicans could keep it by one or two seats. but that one's going to. The U.S. house races are going to be more of a nail biter.
Pastor Jeff Schreve: Okay, Walker. It's been very disappointing to me personally and I know to many others around the country, conservatives, that we couldn't pass the Save America Act. Yeah, I don't get that.
Walker Wildmon: Yeah, that's bizarre. and it doesn't make sense. I mean, there's just, even when you factor in special interest and lobbyists who's the one lobbying to have illegal voting here on the Republican side. And so I don't know what it is. I mean, I really can't put my finger on it other than the fact that Washington just doesn't like to get a lot done. I mean, that's pretty much a theme here, is that Washington doesn't like to get a lot done, especially when it comes to monumental legislation. There's almost this fear of being too successful. and so that's very, very disappointing. I am a little optimistic on the, on further cutting taxes for the Republicans because they have the opportunity to do reconciliation, which needs a simple majority. And instead of this, this talk about a $5,000 stimulus check or whatever you want to call it, dividend payment. Look, I think we need to cut the income tax for working families. That's what I think we need to do. I don't think we need to be sending checks to anybody. That's inflationary. It's socialism. I think we need to be lowering taxes for hard working Americans and especially incentivizing marriage and family through a lower federal income tax rate. That's what Republicans can do with a simple majority. That's what they need to do. And I've encouraged President Trump multiple times on my program. We need to pivot away from this. We're going to send you money to, we're going to cut your taxes. That needs to be the talking point.
Pastor Jeff Schreve: Yeah, very good. Well, Walker, any last, words of encouragement for.

It says this God is our refuge and strength, a very present help in trouble. Therefore we will not fear. God is our refuge and strength, a, very present help in trouble. He's abundantly available to help when you're in trouble. So therefore we will not fear. And the psalmist says, we will not fear even though the earth should change and though the mountains slip into the heart of the sea. Boy, that would be terrifying. Though its waters roar and foam, though the mountains quake at its swelling pride. We don't need to be afraid, no matter what's going on in life. I just got a text from my good friend Roger Javins and Charlotte. Gino, who's a faithful listener to our program, is having a test done today. And he said, pray for Charlotte because, she's having this at 9 o' clock today. And so we do want to pray for Charlotte and that the Lord would just give her peace. You know, one of the verses that I use a lot with, with people when they tell me, hey, I got this going on or that going on, and they're in very stressful situations is Isaiah, 26:3. And you will keep him in perfect peace, whose mind is stayed on you because he trusts in you. Now that is a verse we talk about. Name it and claim it. You've heard that before, that idea. Name it and claim it. Whatever you want. You just name it and claim it in Jesus name and it's yours. that is unbiblical. You can't name it and claim it. But when God names it, then you can claim it when God gives a promise. Acts chapter 2. The promise is for you and your children and all who are far off, as many as the Lord our God shall call to himself when God gives a promise. 2nd Corinthians 1. As many as may be the promises of God in him, in Jesus they are yes. Wherefore also by him is our amen to the glory of God through us. We say amen to God's promises. We say, let it be so. Lord, God gives a promise. It's like giving you a check. And what do you do when someone gives you a check? You endorse the check and cash the check. Our amen is our, Cashing of the check, our signing our name, to the bottom of that check or to the back of that check, endorsing the check and getting it cashed. And so we can trust God, and we can bring our needs before the Lord, and we can say, lord, you promised. Isaiah 26, verse 3. And you will keep him in perfect peace, whose mind is stayed on you because he trusts in you. And you can say, lord, I trust you, and Lord, this is what you said. You said that you would keep me in perfect peace. You know, Isaiah 26:3 is less well known by many Christians than is Philippians 4. Be anxious for nothing, but in everything by prayer and supplication, with thanksgiving, let your request be made known to God and the peace of God. The eirene, is the Greek word the erin, which means, a calmness, a tranquility, and the peace of God, which surpasses all comprehension, shall guard your hearts and minds in Christ Jesus. You know, we don't need to fear so many fear nots in the Bible. The famous phrase is 365 fear nots in the Bible. One for every day of the year. I think that's, kind of a guesstimate. I've, done some research on that. I don't think they're actually 365, but it's obvious. It's over and over and over and over again. God says, do not fear. Don't be afraid. worry about nothing. Be anxious for nothing. Jesus said, consider the lilies. They don't toil or spin. the birds of the heaven don't freak out. they just trust their Father. They. Well, not their father. They trust the Creator to provide for them. And so, we need to trust our Father to provide for us. If God provides for the birds, if he provides for the flowers, then he'll provide for us. Are you not worth much more than they owe men of little faith? Of course we are. We're worth so much to God. You know, you tell, the value of something by what someone is willing to pay for it. And, he who did not spare his own son, Romans 8:32. He who did not spare his own son, but delivered him up for us all, how will he not also with him freely give us all things? Hey, what are you facing today in life? You know, many people are facing health issues and they got a bad report. And, you know, when you go to the doctor, I was thinking about, one of my dear, dear friends, staff, member at our church, Ada Ferguson. Who's in heaven now. And she was having some indigestion problems. She goes to the doctor and she finds out she has stage four pancreatic cancer. Well, if you know anything about cancer, pancreatic is one of the worst. And typically they don't find it until it's stage through stage four. And at that time they can't do anything about it. It's too big. They can't, do surgery to fix it. If you find it early, you can do that Whipple procedure. and then you have a good, good opportunity to live a long life. But if you don't and it's stage four, it's a tough go and you're going to be battling until the end. And you know, if that's six months, a year, year and a half, whatever it might be. But, you know, life can really turn on a dime. We mention m that and many of us, hopefully all of us, if we're honest, we understand that and we know that things can change. Just boom, just like that, you get a phone call, your loved one was in an accident. You get that report at the doctor, just like Ada did, go in for indigestion. Hey, you have stage four pancreatic cancer. There's nothing we can do. And, you know, I give you two years max to live. You get that kind of a note. You go to your place of business and they say, hey, we're cutting back and I'm sorry, but we're going to have to lay you off. Things can, the bottom can drop out of life very quickly. And in that situation, we need to live every day is just surrender to the Lord. Whatever. Lord, I'm reporting for duty. I'm yours. I've been bought with a price and I want to glorify God in my body. But we just, we come to the Lord and we're surrendered to the Lord and we say, lord, here I am, Lord, all that I am, Lord, I belong to you. And whatever you bring into my life, I know this. Nothing comes into my life that does not first filter through your fingers of love. Because the devil can't get at you, he can't get at me, unless God lets down the hedge. The book of Job tells us that where Job said, I can't get at Job because you have a hedge about him, and God has to let down the hedge. And, the God who controls the hedge is the God who loves you. And he loves me. He has nail scars in his hands. He didn't spare his own Son. And, he delivered him up for us all. So we can trust him and we can just know that, when you pass through the waters, as the Lord says in Isaiah 43, when you pass through the waters, I will be with you. And through the rivers, they will not overflow you. When you walk through the fire, you will not be scorched, nor will the flame burn you. For I am the Lord your God, the Holy One of Israel, your Savior. Listen, we are here. And remember this, because you might be listening and you might be going through a really, really tough time in. Maybe it's physical, maybe it's relational, maybe it's financial, Whatever it might be, and you're very, very afraid right now. Just know this. God has allowed these things to come into your life. And God wants to use your life to be a witness of his grace, of his mercy, of his kindness, of his love. And when you as a Christian go through difficulties, and when I, as a Christian, go through difficulties, and we're still praising God, and we're still trusting God, and we're still, looking to him, and our hope is still in him. Ah, as we say with Job, though he slay me, yet will I trust in him that makes such a difference to a lost and dying world. Because they see that and they say, how in the world is this person able to look at these issues in life, look at these circumstances, and not just fold up like a jackknife and not just say, I'm done. follow the advice of Mrs. Job, curse God and die. How do they still have joy? How do they still have hope? Well, here's how you have hope. Romans 15:13. Now may the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace in believing that you may abound in hope by the power of the Holy Spirit. I think every Christian ought to memorize Romans 15:13. God is the God of hope. I remember a class I took in seminary, and, my professor was saying, hey, when people come in, to talk to the pastor, the main thing you can give. And this is true in counseling, this is true in preaching the word of God. You want to always give them hope, because God is the God of hope. And you can preach a hard sermon, about the devastating effects of sin, but you end that sermon with hope. Here's the thing. You may have fallen into terrible, horrible sin. You may have done some terrible, horrible things, as David said in 2nd Samuel, chapter 12, when Nathan the prophet, busted him and said, you're the man. David said, I have sinned. And he didn't say that in a flippant way. He said that from a broken heart. And, Nathan the prophet said, God has taken away your sin. You shall not die. There are consequences. The child born to you is going to die. There are consequences for that sin. But God still loves you. God can forgive you for that. God can restore you. David said in Psalm 12, 13, 14. Two of, my favorite verses. I would have despaired unless I had believed that I would see the goodness of the Lord in the land of the living. Wait for the Lord. Be strong and let your heart take courage. Yes, wait for the Lord. God's timing is not your timing. We want things to be done immediately. We want to pray and have immediate answers to our prayers. But, lots of times, answers to our prayers take time. I still remember my friend Rich Holcomb said, when you pray, God is working and he's hearing our prayers. I love the Lord because he hears my voice and my supplications, because he has inclined his ear to me. Therefore I shall call upon him as long as I live. Psalm 116, verses 1 and 2. So God does hear us call to me, and I will answer you and show you great and mighty things which you do not know. Jeremiah 33, 3. But God is at work. And so when we pray for things, God says, I hear that prayer, and I need to work some things out to bring that to pass. And God works on the person, God works on the place. God works on the particulars. God gets, everything in alignment. You know, Joseph had a dream in Genesis 37 that, his brothers were going to bow down to him. They didn't like that dream. But, God gave him that dream. And the fulfillment of that dream didn't come, right away. It came years and years and years later. And Joseph had to go through the fiery furnace, so to speak. He had to go through terrible times of testing. The Bible tells us in the book of Psalms that, Joseph was, made a slave. And the word of the Lord tested him. And God had to put him in the fire to burn off the dross. You know, it says in Malachi, chapter three, that he, will sit as a smelter of silver. And a smelter of silver puts it in the fire to burn off the dross. So that, it is pure silver. And you get rid of all the impurities. Well, the Lord does that. He sits as a purifier of silver, of gold. And, as Job said, when he has tried me, I will Come forth as gold. And God is using these negative circumstances, these difficulties in your life, my life, and, hey, bigger picture, in our country and in our world, God is using those things. Nothing is out of his control. The Lord sat as king at the flood. The Lord sits as king forever. Psalm 29, verse 10, verse 11. I'm going off memory there. And, God is in charge, so we don't need to fear. God is our refuge and strength, a very present help in trouble. Therefore, we will not fear. Well, you're listening to Real Truth for today. We've been talking this last segment about, dealing with fear. God is our refuge and strength. A, ah, very present help in trouble. He's a boy, abundantly available for help when you're in trouble. When I'm in trouble. When we're in trouble. So therefore, we will not fear. We don't need to be afraid. As Jesus told Jairus, who said, come help me. My daughter is sick to the point of death. And as they were traveling, they said, don't bother the teacher anymore. Your child is dead. And Jesus told him, fear not only believe. And then he raised her from the dead. You remember when you face impossible situations, impossible really just means I'm possible with God. Because with God, nothing is impossible. Now, God doesn't do your will. He doesn't do my will. He does his will. And we pray, not my will, as Jesus prayed. Not my will, but yours, Father be done. And his will is good and acceptable and perfect. You can improve on the perfect will of God. So we pray according to God's will. God, we want what you want. Now, we can bring our needs before the Lord, and we can come before the Lord. We need healing. We need this. We need that. We need our marriage transformed. We need our children. We need their lives to come to the place of brokenness and, to come to their senses if they're prodigals. Just like the prodigal came to his senses and returned to his Father. It's a picture of salvation. And we can pray those things. And let me encourage you. Keep praying God's word back to him. Claim those problems. Name it and claim it. No, but if God names it, then you can claim it, and you can say, lord, I'm claiming this because you promised. Now, one of the great things in scripture, Exodus 34, when the Lord tells Moses who he is, when he declares his glory, his splendor, who he is, the Lord, the Lord, compassionate and gracious, slow to anger and abounding in loving kindness and truth, who keeps loving kindness for thousands, who forgives iniquity, transgression, and sin, you'll find that that is repeated over and over and over in Scripture. Moses prays that back to the Lord. even Jonah, when he's fleeing from the Lord, he quotes that to the Lord. Read Jonah, chapter four and see, Lord, I didn't want to come here to Nineveh because I knew that you are compassionate and gracious, and I didn't want you to be compassionate and gracious to the Ninevites. Sure wanted him to be compassionate and gracious to him when he was swallowed by the great fish in chapter two. But he wanted, God to fry the Ninevites. And he didn't understand that God is a God of mercy and grace and love, and God responds to repentance. So pick up the phone and give me a call. 888-589-8840. Caroline: Good morning. I'm telling you, sir, I get so blessed. The scriptures. I mean, you say these scriptures, and I think all of us are like, oh, yeah, okay. this morning, first of all, that scripture, I will keep him at perfect peace. His mind, heart is stayed on me. That's a scripture. Recently, he has spoken to me, and I'm sharing that with people. And, you know, it's our mind and our heart that need to connect together. That I just wanted to share that. But what I really called for is, I've told you that my Friends and I pray for the nation every Wednesday. And this is foundational scripture. And this is what I want to do share this morning. It's in Psalm 89. and it's, 14 and 15. And there's another scripture, but I'm going to do this with verse. Righteousness and justice are the foundation of the throne. Okay. And then you go to Amos 5:14. But let justice flow like water and righteousness like an unfailing stream. This is one of our key scriptures that we use to pray for this nation. And I just, you know, I just wanted to share that with you because I thought what. What words? Righteousness and justice are the foundation of this throne.
Caroline: Yes.
Pastor Jeff Schreve: Yeah, I like that. so righteousness and justice are the foundation of your throne. Loving kindness and truth go before you. So those are the big four. Righteousness, justice, loving kindness, and truth. And God is the God where those things uphold his throne. And, they're just who he is. He's righteous. He's just. He's loving and kind. And he's a God of truth, as the Bible says about Jesus. He was full of grace and truth. We like to see that he's full of grace, but we kind of don't really like the truth part. So many of us. But God is a God of truth. And, real love does not rejoice in unrighteousness, but rejoices with the truth. 1 Corinthians 13, verse 6. And so how do we treat the issues of our day? How do we treat people? We treat them with love. But we love them enough to tell them the truth. And we don't rejoice in their sin. We don't rejoice in their unrighteousness, because real love doesn't do that. So thank you, Linda. I appreciate that. We have Rebecca on the line from Arkansas. Caroline: Hey, Jeff, thank you so much. I love those other psalms that have been mentioned. I pray for my family. Psalms 19:71, repeatedly. I just love it. and. But the real reason I called was I went to the midterm convention last weekend.
Pastor Jeff Schreve: Oh, did you? Good.
Caroline: Yes. I met some wonderful people from Texas. Precinct leaders. they just, you know, were wonderful, but some speakers, especially the ones running from Texas for the House, and of course, Ken Paxton, who's made mistakes in his life.
Pastor Jeff Schreve: Sure.
Caroline: But I think he would be wonderful in the Senate and other speakers, people who are running for office in the other states. Oh, I think it'll be a wonderful election if Christians can just get out there and vote and take people with them and, family and friends. There are good people running that could turn things around for our country.
Pastor Jeff Schreve: Right. Well, the famous quote, you know, all that's necessary for evil to triumph is for good people to do nothing. And if we don't have Christians going to the polls and voting for righteousness and justice and truth, we're. We have no one to blame but ourselves. It was Ronald Reagan. I played a clip last week, and he said, you know, this is from years and years ago when he was kind of in his prime. But he said we have the most to lose, because as Walker Wildmon said, I mean, the choice is very, very clear. If you vote for a Democrat at this stage of the game, therefore socialism, and you're voting for socialism, which will bring misery, untold misery to the masses. It will be so destructive. If you love people, really love people, and love them in truth, you don't want that for them. You definitely, as a, as a father, as a grandfather, as a great grandfather, and you, know, same thing is true for, mothers and grandmothers and great grandmothers. You don't want that for your kids, for your grandkids, for your great grandkids. And so we want to hand them the baton of freedom and that America would still be that, that city on a hill. So I appreciate that, Rebecca. And it looked like a great time there in, Big D. And so I'm glad that you were able to go. Who is your favorite speaker? Just curious.
Caroline: Oh, man. I guess President Trump. I loved him that first night. He just seemed so warm and loving. I think it was one of his best speeches. And then, of course, having to swear the second night to, you know, raising our right hands and swearing to vote and to take friends and family with us to vote, then other things, but so help me God. And when he said, tongue in cheek now, you'll go to hell if you don't do it.
Pastor Jeff Schreve: Yeah, people. People, on the left definitely don't get his humor. they want to skewer him for really anything and everything. If he breathes air, it's wrong. Well, I appreciate you call, Rebecca, and we do. We want to encourage people. Get out there and vote. Bring people with you and vote. And if we, if we wake up and we say, hey, this is important, and we're going to do what we can do as believers to make a difference in our country, and voting is one important way, we want to do that, so God bless you. Caroline: Hey, Jeff, thank you for having me. want to just say appreciate what you do and speaking the truth always.
Pastor Jeff Schreve: Thank you.
Caroline: It's uncomfortable. And, I called in about a year ago. You and your wife were talking about marriage, and, you know, and that was a great show that you had. You know, our marriage was broken, and by the grace of God, it's. It's been repaired, and it's. It's being repaired.
Pastor Jeff Schreve: Good.
Caroline: And so we celebrated 25 years of that. So there's. I want to tell everybody there's hope there.
Pastor Jeff Schreve: All right.
Caroline: There's not. with. With that being said, my question is this. And I think a lot of men have this question on their mind, you know, with everything going on in our country, especially with the. With the darkness of Islam, and the evil that represents, and not saying that everybody that's a Muslim is evil, you know, with that. But their. Their directive. and, you know, we're talking about not to be anxious for anything. I guess the biggest question that keeps resounding in my mind, I keep asking God, as I have a lot of questions, is it at what point in time does concern in action? You know, what. What point time does it turn from that or to anxiousness? And, you know, it, other than. Than praying to God. You know, our founding fathers finally took action at a certain point. Yeah. in history and World War II. And so, you know, I got confusion there. And I think there's a lot of men out there, I may be wrong, that are saying, hey, you know, we need to be more active, obviously. We need to pray more obviously. But want to get your. Your opinion on that.
Pastor Jeff Schreve: Yeah. Well, if you go back, if you're thinking in terms of, you know, when do you take up arms and that kind of thing. you know, kind of like the American Revolution or the Civil War. that's a, That's a really, really difficult question. I think at this stage, you know, we. We pray, we, speak up, we vote, we get involved. We have Christians run for office. We let our voice be heard. We stand our ground, regardless of the cost of that. If I lose friends, if I lose my job, if I lose my freedom, they put me in jail for it. If I lose my life. You know, you think about Shadrach, Meshach and Abednego and Daniel. They made a huge impact. Daniel, I believe that he, was the principal, person that God used to lead Nebuchadnezzar. To a saving knowledge of the Lord. you read Nebuchadnezzar's testimony in Daniel chapter four. Well, I mean, I think you are going to see Nebuchadnezzar in heaven. And he was a wicked, wicked king. And so they didn't try and topple Babylon, they weren't grabbing, swords and going after them, but they broke down Babylon through their consistency, through their witness, through their prayers, through their resolve and conviction. In Daniel 3, when Nebuchadnezzar was having this big day with his golden image and all this stuff, well, it turned because of three guys who wouldn't bend, they wouldn't bow, they wouldn't burn, as the song said, everything flipped and it became a day to honor the God of Shadrach, Meshach and Abednego. So I think that Jon, we are at the stage now where we, as Christians, we need to wake up, we need to know what's going on. We need to be informed. Walker Wildmon is exactly right. When you look at the facts of our two party political system and you see, okay, neither party is, you know, the Apostle Paul is not running as a Republican. He's definitely not running as a Democrat. so who do I vote for? Do I vote for the lesser of two evils? Well, the answer would be yes, you, have to do that. It's always a situation, with that because you're voting for people and people are flawed. But you have two party platforms. As I played that clip from Robert Jeffress, you know, it's the difference between voting for sinners, people who fall into sin and are ashamed of it, versus people who champion sin. You can't vote for a party whose platform is straight from Romans chapter one, the sins of Romans chapter one. Who platforms sin? Who champions sin? You can't say, yeah, I'm putting my weight behind that group group, because that group is anti scripture. It's anti God, his word, his will, his ways. And so we cannot support that. And we need to get good and godly people in office and then pray for those people. It's not an easy job. It's difficult. There's a lot of pressure. And pray for our pastors to really stand up and step up and speak up and not be afraid. And if you, if you tick some people off in the church because you're speaking the truth in love, so be it. But we need to stand up and be counted. So I appreciate that Jon, I appreciate your call and It's a good question. I'm going to have to consider that some more. Maybe talk to, my friend Bill Federer about that. What would trigger that kind of a response? Ah, as it did in our history, so. Well, God bless you.
