Shareathon Day 1. Jessica and Wesley talk about 52 habits for healthy families.
Dr. Jessica Peck: We would like to take a moment to thank our sponsor, PreBorn. When a mother meets her baby on ultrasound and hears their heartbeat, it's a divine connection. And the majority of the time she will choose life. But they can't do it without our help. Preborn needs us, the pro life community, to come alongside them. One ultrasound is just $28. To donate, dial pound250 and say the keyword baby or visit preborn.com/AFR hi
Listener Story: M. My name is Connie and I'm from Columbus, Ohio and I direct an event in my state capitol called Capitol House of Prayer, which is a prayer for leaders in our state. And I really glean a lot of necessary information from AFR to just, get a greater understanding about ways to pray for government officials. And it's really appreciate all the people there and the fact that they're holding the line. In Matthew 22:37 through 40, Jesus said, Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and all your mind. This is the first and greatest commandment. And the second is like it, love your neighbor as yourself. All the law and the prophets hang on these two commandments. It's share a thon, on American Family Radio. Call now 8776162396 That's 877-616-2396 or give [email protected] make your pledge and help us love God and love people during shareathon.
Wesley Wildmon: M. And if you were coming off your lunch break and you thought that you were going to get a little nap, that's not going to happen because we are excited and fired up here at AFR American Family Radio for our next hour of Shareathon here on Dr. Nurse, Mom Radio program. And, Jessica is here, so don't panic.
Dr. Jessica Peck: I am. I'm here.
Wesley Wildmon: Right here.
Dr. Jessica Peck: I'm here. We're going to do this together.
Wesley Wildmon: That's right. We're going to tag team. I look forward each year. Well, each, sheriff on twice a year. I look forward to twice a year being on with you. We've been doing this since your, since your debut.
Dr. Jessica Peck: That's right. Almost three years ago.
Wesley Wildmon: Wow, that's.
Dr. Jessica Peck: Can you believe that? See, I know I can't help but say they thought I needed help, supervision. They gave me Wesley the wingman. And then in the first five seconds, you spilled your coffee on purpose. I'm convinced. Convinced to make me feel comfortable.
Wesley Wildmon: And I would like for you to remind me about that just one more time. No, hey, listen, that you gotta have fun, okay? If you can't laugh at yourself. There's some. You got. There's bigger problems.
Dr. Jessica Peck: That's right.
Wesley Wildmon: I had a good laugh. I cleaned up. And then, since then, I actually have my own sippy cup, which is. I know it's in my office.
Dr. Jessica Peck: It's true.
Wesley Wildmon: But if you notice, I didn't bring anything today. I just happened to have a little
Dr. Jessica Peck: bottle of water with a lid that's very safe.
Wesley Wildmon: But I'm. I'm going to be careful. There's a lot more room when you're in the studios. But today we are, as we have been the last couple of years when we're on this program, we're actually live in Sharathon Central. So the noise that you hear in the background, I love it. A couple mumblings. you hear people walking by or you see people walking by, if you're watching online. But that is, we're live here in Sharathon Central. The only problem I'm having right now is the phone's not ringing. So.
Dr. Jessica Peck: 877-616-2396. That's 877-616-2396. Now, Wesley, I say this every Sheriathon, we go right after your brother, and there's got to be a little rivalry there, you know, because he gets the phones ringing, and we want to make the phones ring, too. 877-616-2396. Call in.
Wesley Wildmon: And it just seems like he's responsible in the setting up of the challenges.
Dr. Jessica Peck: Yes.
Wesley Wildmon: seems like it best fits his hour. But we're gonna.
Dr. Jessica Peck: You think?
Wesley Wildmon: Yeah, I think. But here's what we're gonna do. We're gonna overlook that.
Dr. Jessica Peck: Okay.
Wesley Wildmon: And we're gonna have. We're gonna keep the expectations extra high. And so we do have a challenge during this, for this hour and the following hour. So from 2:00pm Central time to 4:00pm Central Time, it's a $25, 25,000 challenge. $25,000 challenge. now, we had the same. I was on today's issues earlier, along with a handful of others, on that panel, and we had the same challenge for two hours, and we met it.
Dr. Jessica Peck: Okay, well, let's do it.
Wesley Wildmon: My point is, if you look at it and hear the number is that in two hours, I don't know. It was doable because we did it.
Wesley Wildmon says American Family Radio provides wholesome family ministry content
Okay, so we need our listeners.
Dr. Jessica Peck: Well, I know my husband is listening in, so, honey, call 877-616-2396 and help me out. I'd really appreciate that. Go ahead and Call in. You know, Wesley, I have to say, I've been a part of the AFA family now for almost three years. I cannot believe. Actually, three years this April. That's when I started the podcast and then started on the radio in the fall of that year. But I am so grateful to your family, the Wildmon family, honestly. And to know that your papa was here starting this, honestly, pretty much around when I was born, and to see the groundwork and the way that it's come, and you've had such a great generational legacy, it has been just a privilege to serve alongside your family.
Wesley Wildmon: Well, I appreciate the complaint. I appreciate the kind of words. I also was thinking the other day I was listening to your program. In between, I was running some errands, and I know, I just, Something about the content that you provide on your radio program on AFR at just the right time, in between all the other programs that we offer. The content couldn't have been any better of what my paw Paw did want and has and continues to want to want on a radio program like American Family Radio, because you're covering things that are very impactful to moms that are at the house that are listening. Also very impactful to the dads. Just, it's really good, wholesome family ministry content, and it comes from it, from your perspective, and it sits in between some of the other news, programs that we have. Then, of course, we have Exploring the word at, 3 o'. Clock. So that's also as good. But altogether, AFR just provides a lot of really good radio and podcasting content from different perspectives with covering different areas of our lives, daily lives. And so from the political side to the church side to the home life, which are the three institutes that God created. thankful for your program as well. You do a wonderful job on your radio program.
Dr. Jessica Peck: Well, thank you. You can call in and support at 8776-1623-9687-7616-2396. Now, Wesley, you're the vice president here at AFA, and I wish I could say, oh, thank you. I'm so grateful for your encouragement, but I kind of just feel. Said you were listening. You remember when you were in grade school and, like, the principal would come in to listen to the teacher and see, like, are you teaching? Well, I feel like. Is that what you just did on my program? Were you just listening in, making sure. Okay, all right. Did you have a checklist? Yeah, exactly. No, I'm kidding. I'm kidding.
Wesley Wildmon: But in all seriousness, you know, as leaders, you know, we have to be very responsible for the content that we have on. And I could say with your great confidence that we've really enjoy the partnership and the content that you bring on. I'm pretty sure now you cover this quite a bit. But I'm pretty sure it had to do with social media and young kids and you know, quality time spent on there. Making sure that what some of the, I guess filters or just parental apps or content, make sure that's on there. To make sure that there, I guess there's settings on some of these devices that you can like for, for example my son on. I, he, I, I've logged him in under his account, but I can see it. And so it cuts off at like 8pm he can't get back on there without permission. There's a couple things that you can do, but I'm not a teetotaler. But I'm also. Because it's almost impossible.
Dr. Jessica Peck: You can't be, you really can't. You can't live even in a bunker. You'd have to have some technology.
Wesley Wildmon: That's right. So, finding a good balance. But I just remember sitting there and I was like 30 minutes in and it felt like it's been five minutes
Dr. Jessica Peck: and I was like, oh, that's a great compliment.
Wesley Wildmon: I was like, that's the best. It was one, it was one of those, I thought this is some of them you listen to and you move on. But that one, I was like, I probably need to go back and podcast this one. Well, how, where can they, where can they find you if you want to.
Dr. Jessica Peck: Well, thank you so much for that, Wesley. I encourage you to call in 8776-162396-87776-162396 and I'll say really quick, Wesley, my eyes are on the screen. I know we're supposed to be not looking at screens. We're talking about that. But it just jumped up. $60,000. Now it may have been just.
Wesley Wildmon: Oh, that was, they should have talked about that one. Right? We have a rule at the house. Anything over a hundred dollars, you got talked about.
Dr. Jessica Peck: I might have gotten a text. I have my phone on do not disturb. But you know what, Wesley, I'll tell you, first of all, one of the things that I love about being in the AFR lineup is the lane that we have because there's so much hard hitting news and we've got to have a good pulse on the news. We've know what's going on in the world. And I'm so grateful for all of the hosts who analyze that so well. And you're right, we've got Exploring the Word as a Bible study, but really at the 2 o' clock hour is the time when we say, okay, let's have it be more relational because we talk about that outward facing policy issues and how we act in the public square and how we interact with government. But we also need to be talking about how do we take these messages home and how do we raise strong families. And it doesn't matter where I go, Wesley. The number one question that I get is about social media. Now I'll tell families they can [email protected] you can get the AFR app. They have a radio app. You can find me on any podcast platform. You can find us live if you have a radio station near you every day at 2pm Central. And we every Friday, what we do is a habit for healthy families. So we've been walking through this and the first month of the year we did spiritual disciplines, praying, memorizing scripture, going to church, playing worship music. And I'll say that the phone had got a little quiet. 877-616-239-687-76162396. Now I'm thinking, oh, maybe emails will call in. There it goes.
We did spiritual disciplines, then we did through some rhythms
Wesley Wildmon: Okay, they're starting to ring now. 877-616-2396.
Dr. Jessica Peck: Yeah, so anyway, we did spiritual disciplines, then we did through some rhythms like having a more a devotional with your family, having a morning routine, a bedtime routine, you know, looking at how you sleep, eating dinner together as a family, having a check in. And right now we're in the middle of communication skills. But all summer we will be talking about tech families, about how do we be be tech wise as families. And if families have missed out on any of these, you can actually go to the doctor nursemama coaching minutes. That's just a one minute catch up. Or you can listen to any of the Friday shows and we talk about that.
It's never too late to start making changes, says Wesley Wildmon
Wesley Wildmon: Yeah, speaking about that, there's that's going to be an over for a lot of people that can be overwhelming because you feel like you've already are so far into a habit that's too hard to change. But let me just encourage you, there's no bad day to start. There's never too late to start making changes, even if it's small in the grand scheme of things, over a period of time making changes and making adjustments and challenging yourself and having personal goals in any of these areas that we're talking about. It's never too late to start.
Dr. Jessica Peck: It is never too late.
Wesley Wildmon: M Let me get the number out. And then I also want to mention we have a premium and we understand, we all know that people don't give just for the premium but we do have a little educational piece of material that I want to mention as a part of a premium. But let me get the number out. So 877-616-2396 or visit afr.net so in the event that you give a one time gift or more for $150 or more we have a five pack of constitutions, the AFA. we have our logo on here and it's the, it's basically a booklet pocket Constitution is what we're calling it and it's Forwarded by Steve McDowell who's a friend of ours. He's written a little message in here as well. There's a five pack of these that we'll send you for a gift of $150 or more or if you were to give a monthly gift of $30 or more which really helps us budget when we have monthly giving we'll give you the five pack constitution booklet, five pack of those and these bracelets that are celebrating 250 years in God We Trust bracelets. So that's what we'll give you. speaking about that, that reminds me talking about how our ministry grows. It is so vast with so many different departments and we're constantly growing with our amazing, with our platform that God's given us. I think it's the book the prayer Jabez pray that God will continue to expand our territory ministry. Well he's done that and so we are looking forward to this summer releasing around the July market before July 4th we're going to release a very short ah, documentary that's packed full of content from Christian historians of American heritage. Steven McDowell will be in there, David Barton will be in there, Rick Green Walker, my brother and we have some content that we're going to release just for that and when you support the work of AFR and AFA that helps us fund, it helps us fund material like that that we, that we will release to you but also the general public public will be able to have access to as well.
Dr. Jessica Peck: So that number again is 877-616-2396. That's 877-616-2396 or you can go to afr.net and we would love to hear those phones ringing. You know, Wesley Ste on my program because I think it's really important for families to teach their kids about our Christian heritage and about our faith and, and freedom of religion. And I'm actually just working on speaking of everything that AFA does before I came down here because I am here for Sharathon and Tupelo and I feel like, hey, I got an airplane. I came here like you can pick up the phone at 8776-162396-87776-162396. But AFA has a magazine called the Stand magazine and every month I am so blessed to write a column for that. And I'm working on a column for the special edition of the 250th birthday talking about how do we as generations have helped younger children to understand and appreciate the sacrifice that was given and to focus on character formation over convenience, that is, and comfort. That's a really hard thing to do do in modern day America. But that's one thing that we're trying to do here at afa.
Wesley Wildmon: And what, what month m will that be on?
Dr. Jessica Peck: That's going to be July.
Wesley Wildmon: July, okay, July. Wonderful, wonderful. We got a $25,000 challenge going on this hour all the way to 4pm central time. So yes, please, please, please help us out. You can help help us out by calling at 877-616-2396 or visit afr.net we're about to go to a short break and then we'll come back with some more share a thon here on American Family Radio.
Dr. Jessica Peck: See ya. After crossing the Jordan river into the Promised land, God instructed the children of Israel to take stones from the river and make a memorial. When their future children would say, what do these stones mean? The parents would recount the Lord's deliverance of Israel from slavery and Israel's arrival in the Promised Land. In each of our lives, there are events that ought to be remembered. Events where the Lord moved and delivered us. Whether we use stones, photos, or special celebrations, it matters only that we take time to remember what the Lord has done and pass that testimony on to future generations. Since 1970, since 1977, the American Family association has been informing, equipping and activating individuals to strengthen the moral foundations of America. The Lord has given us many victories over the years that laid the foundation for our work today and into the future.
Listener Story: Learn [email protected] this is Beverly Anderson from Wiggins, Mississippi. And I just wanted to say how much I absolutely love today's issues. The Christian aspect on the news is great. I also love when I'm having a bad day. I can turn on AFR in the morning, and it always seems like there's a song just for me that's talking to me where God is just saying, this is for you. It's amazing. I'm so glad you guys are out there. I love y' all and have a wonderful day. Bye. Love God and love people. We're living a world that keeps breaking. But if we want to find a way to change, all comes down to this. Love God.
Jeff Chamblee: shareathon continues on American Family Radio. Call and pledge your support at 877-616-2396. That's 877-616-2396 or give [email protected] and help us love God and love people on American Family Radio.
Wesley Wildmon: And thank you for listening to American Family Radio. Thank you for being a part of the AFR family through your listenership, through your financial partnership. I know that we've had Thousands, well, exactly 3,474 families financially support us just on day one. And we're at a little past noon, here about halfway through our first day of shareathon And I thank you for each 3479. Now, I better stop there because we could keep going. By the time I finish it, it's adding more. So call in at 877-616-2396 and help us reach our $25,000 challenge all the way between now and 4pm Central Time.
Dr. Jessica Peck: Yep, that's 8776-1623-9687-7616, 2396. Do you hear that phone ringing?
Wesley Wildmon: I hear the phone ringing.
Dr. Jessica Peck: Makes me so happy.
Wesley Wildmon: You know, I guess I'll wait probably till Thursday before I start saying like, hey, can you call on our behalf at the very end? Because I think, I don't think you have to do that today. I don't think I have to bag today. I think, I think, I think we're gonna do it pretty good.
Dr. Jessica Peck: 877-616-2396. We' of volunteers here. I mean there are, ah, just banks and banks of tables with people, volunteers waiting to take your call. And I see it looks like most almost every single one of them is real busy.
Wesley Wildmon: One half of the ones, I'm looking around the room here, half of our people that are in here volunteering are volunteers. The other half, staff got a little Bit of both. We've had people, we have volunteers. That list we have. Basically these are listeners of AFR like yourself, those that are listening to the radio program now. They have driven as far as 6, 7, 8, 10 hours to be a part of this. shareathon on and you know what? They want to take your calls. That's why they're here.
Dr. Jessica Peck: so you want a funny story about that? Yeah. 8776-1623-9687-7616-2396. So there's a volunteer here named Jan. I'm looking for her to see. She might be on. She's a coffee break, maybe. Jan. She volunteers every year and she told me, my very first year of Sharathon, we were giving a shout out to some of the volunte were here and I called them by name. She was not volunteering that year. She was at home in her living room and she said she smacked her husband on the couch like, you know, just in his arm. Said, get up, we're getting in the car, all our friends are there, we're going. And they showed up and she came up and that's how I met her.
Wesley Wildmon: Oh, wow.
Dr. Jessica Peck: Isn't that fun?
Wesley Wildmon: Oh, yeah. There's so many good testimonies like that.
Dr. Jessica Peck: Yeah.
Wesley Wildmon: Your, your gift to AFR is impacting hundreds of thousands of people each year. We have countless testimonies. We don't even have time to play all of them. Even if we just played listener testimony from the, from this morning to the afternoon and had no radio program, we would still have, we still have more testimonies than we can play. And that's like, that's a, contribution or that's a, representative of those that are listening here. Because it is a financial sacrifice. We all have budgets, we all have our financial plan. We have, you know, our plans for this week, and then we got plans for this year and for any, any amount that you're willing to sacrifice to help us continue the work that we do. I know that for myself and I can speak on behalf of leadership and all of the staff. We so much appreciate your financial support because it allows us to continue to do the work that God's called us to do since 1977. Can you believe that?
Dr. Jessica Peck: No, I cannot believe that.
Walker Wildmon: Almost 50 years.
Dr. Jessica Peck: Almost 50 years. That's just. That is absolutely amazing. The number is 877-616-239, 687-76-162396.
One of the things that I love about being a host here is receiving listener emails
Wesley, one of the things that I love about being a host here is that we get listener email m from time to time or sometimes people will even mail a card. I'm old fashioned like that.
Wesley Wildmon: I get a lot of that.
Dr. Jessica Peck: I love it. I mean that says a lot that somebody cared enough to write something down to go to the post office to get a stamp and send it. That really means a lot. But it is so amazing because I know we have a lot of truckers who drive across the country and they're delivering a crit goods essential things that we need and they listen.
Wesley Wildmon: Let me add something about that. So it's we all. For years we get either a Christmas card or you get a birthday card or you get a. Just a gratitude card and you look at it and you read it and you're very appreciative of it. But it's natural and I get it. We all. At times it'll find itself in a drawer or end up getting thrown away and that happens. But I just want to say that I have. If it gets mailed here, it's still in my office. I have a box that now the first couple of years I didn't. I wasn't impressed upon me. I kind of just. I did what most people do. I put it in a drawer, end up throwing away. About. About eight years ago, about two years after working here full time, I looked at one of them and was so moved by it I was like I cannot in good conscience just throw this one away even though. Even if it never gets red again. So I actually develop. I got a box of just a brown box and it's about. It's in my office. I'll have. I'm a. We're on video, aren't we?
Dr. Jessica Peck: We are. I think we are on video. Yeah.
Wesley Wildmon: I'm gonna bring it. I'm gonna remember.
Dr. Jessica Peck: Bring it. Because that's actually the habit this week is writing letters.
Wesley Wildmon: Okay, well I've got a box of them about this big.
Dr. Jessica Peck: I want to see it for the last. I want to see it. No, I want to see it. I'm. Now I'm not going to tell your mom that you don't keep your birthday cards but I do want to see the listener emails. And listeners can call in at 877-616-2396. I've gotten emails from listeners. listen, one of the, the, the listeners. I love all my listeners but we have an army of grannies who listen in. They do the school pickup line and they really want to know like what is trying to understand what are their kids facing today. How can they pray for them. How can they come alongside them? So if you're one of those army of, grannies who are just really engaged in your grandkids lives, we'd love to hear from you. 877-616-2396. That's 877-616-2396. I would love to see that box of letters.
Wesley Wildmon: You know, I bet this radio program also too helps. Helps them be just prepared in the. To the point they're not shocked. You know what I mean? A lot of.
Dr. Jessica Peck: Yeah, that's right. That's exactly right. A lot of times they are, yes. Like, I did have to be able
Wesley Wildmon: to control a little bit of your composure because you don't want to give it all away. And then they not want to talk to you. Say, I had a good mom. My mom, my mom was in child development.
Dr. Jessica Peck: That, yes, that helps that it shows. It really shows, Wesley. But, you know, I did one whole show where I talked about the impacts of the algorithm and I had a really precious little, grandfather, ask me, later. He said, okay, I just got one question. I said, okay, what's the question? And he said, what's an algorithm? And I was like, yeah, that's, that's where we are. That's a good starting point because, I mean, listen, I am learning something new every single day. There are things that I do not know, but it is really challenging. But that's one thing that AFA does. And I'm so glad to be here with afr being able to equip parents now I'm a mom myself. I've got four kids. My kids are, later older teenagers and just starting to launch into life. And so I'm like, okay, y' all are going to have to have some grandkids soon so I can stay current.
Wesley Wildmon: That's right, yes.
Dr. Jessica Peck: That's what going to happen.
Wesley Wildmon: Yep. So I've got, both of my, my parents, My parents and my wife's parents both live fairly, I mean, within 15 minutes of our house.
Dr. Jessica Peck: What a gift.
Wesley Wildmon: And they are just phenomenal. I mean, I'm not saying this because they're probably listening, but they are incredible grandparents. They're very involved. They, come to all the events that they can make, they are conscious. You know, it's also got the best of both worlds because my wives, my wife's parents, they live like on a farm, you know, more out in the country.
Dr. Jessica Peck: So. Good for kids.
Wesley Wildmon: Oh, yeah. And then my parents, they do some outdoors and stuff, but they're more like, hey, take them to the movies and that. So they get my. My kids get the best of both worlds. So if my kids, they better not complain. They got it made.
Dr. Jessica Peck: That is on the record there. That's a bold statement, Wesley.
Wesley Wildmon: Well, they already know that. I tell my kids I got two rules. Don't complain or make excuses. I carry that over in all life. And I hold myself accountable to that too. Or my wife does.
Dr. Jessica Peck: My wife holds me accountable to that too. Exactly. That number again is 8, 7, 7, 6162396. 8, 776-162396. You know what's a rule in my house, Wesley? My kids are not allowed to say I'm bored. Because if they say I'm bored, I'm gonna say, oh, I will make sure that you are not bored. I have plen to do so.
Wesley Wildmon: It's like one of those, if you're crying, I'll give you a reason to cry. If you're bored, I'll give you reason to be bored.
Dr. Jessica Peck: I'll give you a reason to be bored. Now, that may or may not have ended in 100 paper plates that were attached to the wall with gum.
Wesley Wildmon: Who is this?
Dr. Jessica Peck: My sons.
Wesley Wildmon: Oh, that, that. They get a big kick out of that, didn't they? They did.
Dr. Jessica Peck: They're. Don't worry, mom. We didn't use tacks or nails. We used gum. Now, that was from their grandmother because I didn't let them have gum. Not exot. But they did. But I'm so grate influence over their grandparents. I want to give the number again. 8, 7, 7, 616-2396, 8776-162396. You know, you were saying earlier, Wesley, that it's never too late to start again. It's never too late to pursue a relationship with the Lord. It's never too late to pursue family healing. And my father in law came to know the Lord really after he retired. So later in his life. And let me tell you, that man is a bastion of faith. Like he, my kids know, he gets on his knees by his bed every single day and he prays for them. He reads his Bible, he brings them donuts every Tuesday that are left over from his men's Bible study that he goes to at like, I don't know, three o' clock in the morning, very early. Yes, exactly. But he is a faithful man of God. And it is so. It's just unbelievable to think about his life before Christ. But he has been such a great, great Gift to my children.
Wesley Wildmon: That's what I'm speaking about. Grandparents, this summer we're hosting the Activate Summit.
Dr. Jessica Peck: Yes, I'll be there.
Wesley Wildmon: Yes, you'll be there. And we're gonna be talking about the family. Yeah. And brother Bert Harper and I. Because I'm gonna stop, I'm gonna give you just a tease.
Dr. Jessica Peck: Okay.
Wesley Wildmon: But I know all I've seen what he's gonna talk about a little bit of a tease. Brother Bert Harper, if you come, he's gonna have a session where he speaks to the importance and the value and how you can be a great grandparent.
Dr. Jessica Peck: He is one.
Wesley Wildmon: And he is one.
Dr. Jessica Peck: That's amazing.
Wesley Wildmon: He drives a good bit. A lot of his family lives within two or three hours of Tupelo And he will drive, just in one day and go see his grandson play basketball in Alabama and come back that next day and make it to work. I mean, that's how committed he is to being there and showing up and being a good granddad. And he. And I've talked about it over the years. He's heard me talk a good bit about both of my grandparents growing up. And, we just shared so much in common. I said, you know what? I think it would be good if you spoke at the summit and talked about the value and the biblical role of a grandparent. So that's what he's going to be talking about.
Dr. Jessica Peck: He is a gracious and humble leader. And all I have to say about that, Wesley, is when I started here, I was so happy. I was in the 2 o' clock hour and not the 4 o' clock hour because I didn't want to follow Bert Harper on the radio. And he and Alex McFarland host exploring the Word, a really great Bible study and such a great time to spend that mid break in the afternoon when maybe if you're working one of the nine to five people, like it's almost time to go home, but not quite, like just a little to get you past that and go that number again is 8777-616-239-687-76162396. We ask you to call any gift of any size. We are so grateful for your support. If you have heard something on afr, if you've been blessed in some way by the ministry of American Family association, this is one of only two times a year that we ask for your support. And I will tell you, I'm a relative newcomer around here. I mean, people who come, they don't leave. I mean, I'll ask, how long have you been here?
Wesley Wildmon: That's why you're going to be the newest.
Dr. Jessica Peck: I know, like, a long time. Like, I'm still only three. I'm. I'm a toddler, and they stay for a long time and steward the resources so. Well, I can tell you, I have been absolutely amazed by the sincerity of the people and the mindset just to know that this is the money that our listeners give, and we want to use it to the best that we can to equip them and to glorify God.
AFR's summer conference runs July 16 through 18th
Wesley Wildmon: Speaking about equipping, let me give that website of our summit this summer. So, activate.afa.net you can find out all the information about our summer, conference. And it's July 16 through the 18th. July 16 through the 18th. And you can find out all the information about registering who the speakers are, what the content is. And we have a, track, a kids track that goes on simultaneously with the adult conference, so you can bring your entire family, all ages. And we have a kids track that goes on at the same time. Activate.afat.net and we also incorporate several sessions and times throughout the day where we're worshiping and doing events together. One thing that we're doing for the first time ever in all of AFR's history.
Dr. Jessica Peck: Oh, I don't know if I know this. I don't know if I feel like this is a big moment. Like we need a drum roll or something. What is it?
Wesley Wildmon: We're doing a live Trivia Thursday.
Dr. Jessica Peck: Really?
Wesley Wildmon: You usually.
Dr. Jessica Peck: That's gonna be so fun. What?
Wesley Wildmon: We're gonna do it on Thursday. Live Trivia Thursday. I'll take it all the.
Dr. Jessica Peck: Am m I ineligible to win since I'm technically kind of a part of it.
Wesley Wildmon: You know what?
Dr. Jessica Peck: Now I just. I m really need now because I. I need to know how to t
Wesley Wildmon: my expectations, find a way to incorporate you.
Dr. Jessica Peck: I mean, I'll. I'll donate the prize, but I just. I want to be able. Oh.
Wesley Wildmon: Oh, no, no. Not a fine face. I don't know. We got to figure this out. Maybe you get to pie Tim in the face.
Dr. Jessica Peck: Oh, now that I would be too scared to do. Okay. I would be too scared to do that.
Wesley Wildmon: You can only imagine how much fun we're gonna have. See, it's possible to have good, clean fun.
Dr. Jessica Peck: You're missing out on the fun. If you want some of the fun, call in 877-876-162396. That's 8777-6-16-2396.
I'm concerned about the impact of AI on children's development
You know what I'm talking about at the summit, Wesley?
Wesley Wildmon: What's that?
Dr. Jessica Peck: I'm talking about the impact of AI on children's development and worldview. It's something that's already happening. And parents keep thinking, okay, like what do I need to know what's going to happen? And, and I keep saying it's not going to happen, it's happening, it's already here. And we don't even realize how much AI is integrated into our world. And I'm really concerned, we, I really am, about the way the influence that AI will have on this generation of kids because parents have competition like never before to be influenced. And parents consistently have been the greatest influence in their children's lives. But I really believe that AI is going to give us a run for our money.
Wesley Wildmon: I got a question. This may take us, into the break and I think ask, you can finish answering it later if we don't have time. But what would you say to a parent or grandparent that is, it is unusually scared just with the idea of it to the point where they're kind of paralyzed themselves and they're like, you know, it hasn't really affected me, so it can't be that bad for the kids. how, I mean, what would you tell them? They're too scared to even address or even get close to, you know, dealing with the issue.
Dr. Jessica Peck: I love that you asked that question, Wesley. I'll give the number again. 877-616-2396. Keep our volunteers busy. 877-616-2396 I am so glad you asked that, Wesley, because one of the things that I know as a professor is the research on fear based strategy. So you probably remember something like this, like when you were a little kid and you went maybe to a county fair or something like that, and there was a crumpled up car that had been in an accident. And they would say like, this was a dui, like this was somebody that was driving under the influence and, and it was supposed to scare you and shock you, right? Well, it did. It was really effective in that. But it didn't change behavior. It didn't make people drive any safer. So what we know is that fear based strategies are, only effective in generating fear. They're really not effective in changing behavior. And so one of the real, the main emphasis is on my show is taking a faith informed approach. We talk a lot about trauma informed and other, you know, things that evidence informed. But I really want us to be faith informed to know that God has not given us a spirit of fear, but a power and love and a sound mind. And he has given you your children and your grandchildren for such a time as this. He is not pacing the the throne room of heaven saying, oh, no, what's going to happen next? What's, what is it going to be? But he has equipped us, and, we know he's won the war, but he's equipped us to run the race before us with perseverance. And that's exactly what we're here helping people do.
Wesley Wildmon: We're occupying the time that God's given us. That's what it says in the book of Luke. Occupy your time. 877-616-2396. The phone number to call. And please, please, please help us reach our $25,000 challenge. All the way. That ends at 4pm Central time. That ends at 4pM Central time. Or visit afr.net we will be back right after this short break. One more time. The phone number is 877-616. And please financially partner with us here during this spring Share a thon on American Family Radio. We'll be right back after this short break.
Dr. Jessica Peck: We'll be right back. 877-616-2396 or afr.net. Vice President Walker Wildmon.
Walker Wildmon: Well, throughout my childhood, I would, come and visit, American Family Association. And one of the fondest memories I have is walking in, with my dad, Tim, as a child. And we always, of course, had a receptionist. And it's only been a handful of different receptionists over the years. One of them was my, what we call Aunt Tamara, which is technically my dad's aunt. And she was a receptionist for a couple decades. but nonetheless, I, would walk in and of course, as a child, you're still learning manners and how to greet people. And I would always be quiet and have my head down when we walked in the office, but my dad would always make me look up and say hello to, our receptionist, whoever it was at the time. So I had to learn to greet people as a child walking into afa. And, I also remember the, Sharathon days that have been going on for a long, long time. And, and there's actually a picture somewhere around here of, my grandfather. I think he's, I think he's actually changing my diaper as I was an infant, on the floor in Sharathon Central. So, my early years were very memorable around here. And then fast forward to my years in college. When I first went to college, I Didn't know what I wanted to do. I thought a little bit about law enforcement, and then political science came up, and I loved politics. I was always into the latest political news. So I decided that I would go into political science and then come to work at American Family association years later. So that's what I did. I started here in 2015, and a lot's changed since then. But, the same culture and the same really vision that my grandfather had so many years ago is still around today. Business Insider in, 2011, published this headline, the Unstoppable Rise of the American Family Association. And, the first paragraph says that Don Wildmon should be mentioned alongside Steve Jobs when talking about the greatest founders of the past 40 years. So that's not my words, but as I read that, of course it's from 2011, you know, the question comes up, what is AFA doing today? And I would argue the work that we're doing today is just as important, as the work that my grandfather started back in the late 70s, and even the work that we were doing in 2011 when that column was written by Business Insider. We're still going strong today. We've consulted, presidents on a variety of policies and judicial nominations, including President Trump's Supreme Court picks. we were instrumental in overturning of Roe v. Wade because that happened in our very own home state of Mississippi. And we want to transform culture. We don't just want to engage with it because that doesn't necessarily change things. We want to. To transform culture, which is what God calls us to do, through being salt and light.
Listener Story: Hi, my name is Barb, and I live in Delaware, Ohio. And since I found 89.1, and the ability for me to listen to AFR through this station, I choose no other radio station. And I just really appreciate the focus of, health and wholeness in our world that has a lot of trouble in it. Even if the news of the day seems to be all bad. I always hear hope spoken through the voices on afr. Not only hope in our God, but hope in the good things that people are doing, even in the midst of things that. That seem to have no hope. I'll keep listening to afr, and I'm very thankful for it. Jesus told us to love God with all our heart, soul and mind, and to love our neighbors as ourselves. It's Share a Thon, on American Family Radio. Call 877-616-2396 or give online at afr.net Make your pledge and help us love God and love people during Sharathon.
Wesley Wildmon: All right. And thank you back for. Thank you back. Thank you for being back. Sorry, excuse me.
Dr. Jessica Peck: It's okay.
Wesley Wildmon: I actually am having. I'm taking a break from coffee, by the way, for a couple weeks.
Dr. Jessica Peck: Are you really?
Wesley Wildmon: Yeah.
Dr. Jessica Peck: Why?
Wesley Wildmon: Yeah, well, for some health issues.
Dr. Jessica Peck: Okay. Okay.
Wesley Wildmon: But I'm having to take some and pretty much caffeine in general.
Dr. Jessica Peck: Okay.
Wesley Wildmon: And I've spoken doctors pretty much said you got to sleep better or sleep, go to sleep sooner and less caffeine for a little bit. So that's what I'm doing.
Dr. Jessica Peck: Okay.
Wesley Wildmon: But it's costing me. Okay. But it is. We're, we're mid afternoon here. This is where I'm on Cup eight. Okay.
Dr. Jessica Peck: That's okay.
Wesley Wildmon: You and I were on cup none
Dr. Jessica Peck: on the struggle bus just now, so that's okay. You know, you can give our, our volunteers here at Shareathon a dose of caffeine. You can wake them up this afternoon by calling in at 877-616-2396. That's 877-616-2396. Call and talk to these lovely people who are waiting to take your call.
Wesley Wildmon: Or you can also go to afr.net afr.net I joked earlier on today's issues, but I've got a couple friends that are, actually about my age. They're very big in supporting AFR financially. They help us out and they're good friends of mine. They're local uncle here in Tupelo. And they, one of them is m still mailing in checks or still mailing. It's not, not a check.
Dr. Jessica Peck: Okay.
Wesley Wildmon: Smelling in their donation. Oh, that's a possibility.
Dr. Jessica Peck: That's a possibility.
Wesley Wildmon: We don't talk about. It's not on this sheet here.
Dr. Jessica Peck: But I was at the store the other day and my husband was waiting for me outside and he said, what took so long? And I said somebody was writing a check. And I mean. And my kids were like, what is happening? What? Yes, what is happening? But hey, we'll take checks, we'll take credit cards, we'll take cash. 1-877-616-2396.
Wesley Wildmon: You like to tell audience what cursive is. And I'm just kidding.
Dr. Jessica Peck: We do talk about that, actually. I, I know some of our listeners will rejoice to hear. I'm a big fan of cursive writing. I'm a big fan of handwriting. The way that it makes your brain develop and develops for kids. It is a good thing and we're seeing it come back.
Wesley Wildmon: Yeah, we are seeing that. Speaking about it coming back, we're also seeing in public schools in some states, we're seeing a reintroduction to prayer in schools.
Wesley Wildmon: We're also seeing the Ten Commandments being. These are some states, not all. They've passed legislation to have 10 commandments back in their school. And we're praying and hoping in a couple of states. AFA Action is working on some legislation to also provide students with the opportunity to go to their local church during their time of worship and basically give them their time of worship that they.
Wesley Wildmon: That they. That there is a First Amendment right. And so they're working on. We're working on some things like that in public schools. And so it's a slow process. I mean, it every. A lot of what we lost in our public education was not lost overnight. So it's. It's an uphill bout in a lot of ways. But AFA and AFA Action, they're willing to play the long game here in a lot of ways, and that's what we're doing. So just little shout out to afax. My brother actually, he oversees that division of American Family Radio, and he and his team, they do a wonderful job on areas such as that. I'm actually, we're in our, AFR Central. I'm looking at one of our banners, AFA Action over here. And it says, dedicated to advancing biblical family values in society and in government by educating and influence public policy. And that's exactly what they're doing in those areas that I just mentioned. Attention.
Dr. Jessica Peck: They really are. And what our listeners are doing are pushing us up over a big milestone here. We're just about $3,000 away from a really big milestone here. So call in at 877-616-2396. That's 877-616-2396. But I will tell you, Wesley, I know we have a little friendly competition going on with Walker. And I feel like since Walker was
Wesley Wildmon: tired of him getting to 7, set the standards and the rules. Go ahead.
Dr. Jessica Peck: Yes, exactly. And I feel like, you know, he's going to say, well, some of those were posted. Ah, they really were. In my hour, we might have to duke it out. Right. But really, I wrote it down when we came in here, and we are like 130,000. Oh, it's so close. Okay, eight, seven, seven.
Wesley Wildmon: We're gonna get that.
Dr. Jessica Peck: 616-2396.
One of the things, actually, the habit for this week is writing letters
So grateful for all that you do when you're talking about Cursive. One of the things, actually, the habit for this week that we're talking about is writing letters, because this is something that's really power. Know you recognize the handwriting of people that you love, and there's something, about that. So one of the things that I did for my kids is that when they had their first birthday, I made a time capsule, and everybody wrote a letter to put in there, and they could do, like, when they were one, that their first birthday. So I sent it out with a birthday invitation because I'm big into tradition. I love tradition and milestones. I feel like that's biblical, you know, setting a monument, a marker. That number, by the way, is 877616, 6239-687761-62396. So everybody could come and bring a letter, and if they wanted to put something in there, then they could. And when, my oldest opened that, we opened that at their college graduation party.
Wesley Wildmon: Are you serious?
Dr. Jessica Peck: I'm serious.
Wesley Wildmon: That's awesome.
Dr. Jessica Peck: It was amazing. So the first.
Wesley Wildmon: I bet there's a lot of tearing up there.
Dr. Jessica Peck: Oh, you can't even imagine. Because the first thinking about. I know, right? The first letter, right on the top was a letter from my kid's great grandfather, who was 97 years old, a World War II veteran. He had beautiful handwriting because he was raised in an era where handwriting, you know, bespoke of your character in a way. And he had. He had passed away by the. Before she opened that. But having a letter for him, you know, talking about. Oh, it gives me goosebumps. Look, I got goosebumps.
Jane: Right?
Dr. Jessica Peck: I know. It was really beautiful. And several other family members who had passed on still knowing that, you know, they. That my kids were cared for, that they thought about legacy, that they prayed for them. It was really, really special.
Wesley Wildmon: I'm going to speak from someone who's really, really, really bad at writing. Or just note, notes or words. not just letter. Would you call it a letter? Yeah, letter, letter, notes, birthday cards, anything like that. I'm just so bad at it. I will say this. Who's really, really bad at it?
Dr. Jessica Peck: Okay.
Wesley Wildmon: After 13, almost 13 years, it does not have to be longer. Perfect.
Dr. Jessica Peck: Okay, that's right.
Wesley Wildmon: for someone that comes from me.
Dr. Jessica Peck: Okay, that's right. It's true.
Wesley Wildmon: To be thoughtful. And even. Even if your first one's short. Short and thoughtful is better. Now, if you're. If you. If your education is in writing. Yeah. Okay. Probably not a little higher standard. Okay. But. And just the Thought and short is, is a good start.
Dr. Jessica Peck: My husband's an engineer, A real life rocket scientist. Which is a fun fact about me because every. My husband thinks it's funny that people think I'm the smart one.
Wesley Wildmon: He's a scientist.
Dr. Jessica Peck: But here's what he says.
Wesley Wildmon: But everybody listens to your advice.
Dr. Jessica Peck: That's right, exactly. Because he says I speak numbers. I'm genetically predispositioned to hurt your feelings. And your mom is genetically predispositioned to help it.
Wesley Wildmon: Help it. That's exactly, that's it. Hey, that's. That switches my thinking here. So what do you think about the Artemis too?
Dr. Jessica Peck: Yes, yes I do. So that number again is 877-616-239, 687-76-162396. So, Wesley, this is going to become husband, right? No, I'm speaking for myself.
Wesley Wildmon: I want to know his thoughts.
Dr. Jessica Peck: I, I will tell you. I will tell you what I think. I cannot speak for him because, you know, I don't have that level of clearance, I guess, you know. But at the same time I can tell you I live with a man. And one of the things that
I grew up in Houston in Space City. Houston really is Space City
Fun fact. I feel like we're like fun fact Friday, but it's a Tuesday. So here we are. I grew up in Houston in Space City. And I first I met Neil Armstrong. He was good friends with my fourth grade teacher. And so one day, in the summer before fourth grade started, I was her classroom assistant and I was helping her and Neil Armstrong showed up to help move the desks. And so that was that. So I grew up in Space City. Like, my kids went to school with astronauts kids and he, you know, some of the astronauts would just zoom into their classroom basically every Friday and talk with them. And we we live actually two of the astronauts, who are up on the Artemis right now are in my community. They're my neighbors.
Wesley Wildmon: Yes.
Dr. Jessica Peck: See, and this is so normal to me. But I tell my kids, when you get outside of Space City, then you realize like, oh, people think that's cool. Here's another fun story.
Wesley Wildmon: So they're real people then?
Dr. Jessica Peck: Yeah, they're. Oh, oh, now, now we're gonna get controversial here. Okay, now we're gonna.
Wesley Wildmon: That's it. I just like for us it's like, it's like for me, like if I. Here's an example. So here in town there's a, there's a gentleman who's a friend of mine, his name's Krish Stratton, he pitched and Mississippi M State he pitched, he's pitched in the major, leagues for years. A part of, of a World Series team for the Texas Rangers. Like he's a superstar. But most people don't realize he's also just a very kind, Christian, ordinary man.
Dr. Jessica Peck: Right.
Wesley Wildmon: And so that's kind of the joke there with those, with the astronauts, that's a big deal.
Dr. Jessica Peck: But for you it's just every day it's just another neighbor. That number again, by the way, is 8776-162396-77616-2396. So I did a film series of education for, for human trafficking, because that's primarily what I do. in my. And I had a film crew that came out and my church was gracious enough to let me use the church to have to film the series. And so, of course one of the young men who came in was part of the film crew. He was really enamored of space culture and he was asking me all kinds of questions. And he said, do you know any of the Apollo 13 astronauts? And I said, I said, honey, because, you know, I'm from Texas. I said, honey, you're standing in one of the flight director Sunday school classrooms right next to.
Wesley Wildmon: Now,
Dr. Jessica Peck: he was just, he's just our friend. He is our friend. But, that's what happens. Houston really is Space City. It really is.
Wesley Wildmon: Yeah, apparently so. So, so what's your, just your reactions, your excitement.
Dr. Jessica Peck: Amazing.
Wesley Wildmon: Now did they go all the way around?
Dr. Jessica Peck: They did, they did. Number again. 877-616-2396. I don't want to get in trouble for our boss over there. 877-616-2396.
Wesley Wildmon: Are you keeping me accountable here?
Dr. Jessica Peck: I am. So actually I was able to go to the first Artemis line launch.
Wesley Wildmon: Okay.
Dr. Jessica Peck: My husband, as I said, is a rocket scientist and, super exciting. So this is. If you imagine a rocket that's taller than a 30 story building, I have some pictures of me right in front of it. I mean it is huge. They basically.
Wesley Wildmon: Oh yeah, I got a question. So you just get it. Did you get invited? You get a ticket or.
Dr. Jessica Peck: I got, I got vip.
Wesley Wildmon: Okay. I was gonna say, I don't remember seeing the ticket sold for that.
Dr. Jessica Peck: I did that. That's all my, that's all my husband for sure. He, he actually got an awesome award for his work. And so we went. But it's amazing that they basically, you know, have a controlled explosion is the, is the phrase I've been told under a basically a 30 story building. Launch it up into space, it slingshots around the moon. They lose, contact with Houston, of course, you know, like Houston, we have a problem, right? And they're supposed to do that, and then they come back around. So Artemis 1 was unmanned, so it went around the moon. Now, Artemis, Artemis 2 has four astronauts who are in it. And let me tell you, when I hear the verse, the heavens declare the glory of God. you see those pictures they have of the, the Earth on the horizon of the moon? And you think that happened, right?
Wesley Wildmon: Yeah.
Dr. Jessica Peck: That's amazing.
Wesley Wildmon: Yeah. 8776-1623-9687-7616-2396 revisit. Visit afr ah.net now, last. I could go on for hours.
Have you had anybody that's an astronaut on your radio program?
Last question on this topic.
Dr. Jessica Peck: All right.
Wesley Wildmon: Have you had anybody that's an astronaut on your radio program? Now you say, well, for what reason could astronaut. Family life. I don't know. But yes, I gotta ask.
Dr. Jessica Peck: I have not. Because sometimes it's hard, you know, because of, you know, what my husband does in building rockets. And then you interview the people who fly them. You know, you gotta walk that line really carefully. But I, I do love everything that is going on. It's really amazing. There are some amazing, courageous men and women out there who are exploring space and, and I'm so grateful for that.
Wesley Wildmon: Wonderful. I gotta, I just had to.
Dr. Jessica Peck: Yeah, you had to ask. That's okay.
Wesley Wildmon: Well, please, please, please help us. We have a 24, but if you
Dr. Jessica Peck: want to come over for lunch, I'll invite them over. I will consider that.
Wesley Wildmon: Actually, when I'm in the area, I'll make it happen.
Dr. Jessica Peck: Okay. All right. I'll take you to NASA. I'll give you a tour.
Wesley Wildmon: Oh, that just sounds amazing. Okay, call, in 877-616-2396 or visit afr.net now, when, when this segment ends and we move on to the next radio program, the challenge still continues. Dr. Jessica Peck: We crushed it.
Wesley Wildmon: We did. I thought we nailed it.

Dr. Jessica Peck: We did. And the listeners were so gracious to us. Thanks so much for helping us out. This has become one of my favorite hours. Like, we just had three hours of this.
