In the 1994 Holder v. Hall Supreme Court ruling on dividing voting districts by skin color Justice Clarence Thomas penned these seemingly prophetic words:
“As a practical political matter our drive to segregate our political districts by race can only serve to deepen racial divisions by destroying any need for voters or candidates to build bridges between racial groups or form voting coalitions.”
Justice Thomas warned skin color idolatry in the political system destroys democratic trust and consent.
The current strain continues for failure to heed his warning.
