David, the son of Jesse, was just an ordinary giant slayer.

David’s battle with Goliath is an epic drama where the little boy stands in God’s power to conquer the Philistine giant.
David didn’t awaken that morning expecting to slay a giant. He didn’t stroll in with an entourage after a rugged mountain range training camp like Rocky in Rocky IV. He was just a regular kid bringing his brothers’ lunch. But fully confident in God’s immeasurable power, though he saw Goliath, David never acknowledged him as a giant, saying, “Who is this uncircumcised Philistine who dares defy the Lord of hosts?”
When regular people are fully persuaded, fully confident in God’s power, giant’s fall.
“And He made from one man every nation of mankind to live on all the face of the earth, having determined allotted periods and the boundaries of their dwelling place.”

Acts 17:26 conveys to us the reality that we were born and placed in the 21st century by God’s specific design. He determined before time where we would live and when we would live there.
If you’re in Minnesota, Mississippi, or Maine, God put you there on purpose.
He’s not surprised by the darkness we see around us, nor is He caught off guard by it. In fact, He specifically prepared for it by making sure you’re alive right now. God can do whatever He wants, but He’s chosen to use you and me as ambassadors of His kingdom.
We are His torches to light up the darkness.
"Always being prepared to make a defense to anyone who asks you for the reason for the hope that is in you” 1 Peter 3:15 (ESV).

Many who oppose Christianity target their hostility on our foundation, the Bible. They say it is unreliable because Genesis 1 and Genesis 2 are contradictory accounts of the creation story.
In actuality, the 2 chapters are complimentary and not contradictory.
When Jesus was asked about marriage, He quoted from both chapters 1 and 2, saying that He made them both to be male and female in the beginning. "And for this cause shall a man leave his mother and father and cleave unto his wife."
Genesis 1 is an overview of the creation story and Genesis 2 is an up close examination of day 6. If Jesus relies on them both, so can we.

What is the proper role of government? Romans chapter 13 outlines government’s function and it is basically this: to restrain or to punish wickedness and to reward righteousness.
Government was never intended to be our savior. Government is our servant.
As we focus on our civil occupations and our civic engagement responsibilities, let us never forget that government is not our God. We don’t put our trust in it; we put our trust in our Christ.
As a result, what we want is a government that stays out of our way and leaves room for our church to do our business of fulfilling the Great Commission.
What is the source of America's greatness? Alexis de Tocqueville, a 19th century French political thinker and philosopher, had this exact same question.

On the heels of the French Revolution, he came to America in 1831 to investigate America's ascendency. In doing so, he found that America's greatness did not lie in her economic system. It did not lie in her banking system. Nor did it lie in her educational system.
He found that America's pulpits, aflamed with righteousness, was the source of America's greatness. He opined that America is great because she is good, but when America ceases to be good, she will cease to be great.
Let us pray for restoration of the flame of righteousness in our pulpits.

Recently I heard a statement that went like this, “I don’t think principles matter if you can’t get elected.”
Principles form the core of who you are. Principles form the foundation of a civil society.
George Washington in his farewell address identified religion and morality as indispensable supports.
“In vain would that man claim the tribute of patriotism who should labor to subvert these great pillars of human happiness,” George Washington said.
It makes me think of a scripture. “What would it profit a man to gain the whole world yet lose his soul?”
What would it profit a man to gain an election yet lose his principles?
For you formed my inward parts. you knitted me together in my mother's womb.

According to a recent study published by the Christian Post, 76.3 percent of all abortions are obtained by "God-fearing women."
With 68.7 percent who identify themselves as Christian women, and 18 percent of all abortions obtained by self-discribed
born-again or evangelical women.
A corresponding Care Net study found that many women with unplanned pregnancies go silently from the church pew to the
abortion clinic, convinced the church would gossip rather than help.
America's greatest need is repentance.
When the hearts of the American people turn to God, everything else will be impacted.
“All Scripture is breathed out by God and profitable for teaching, for reproof, for correction, and for training in righteousness” 2 Timothy 3:16 (ESV).

When their mom passed the Landau brothers of NJ had a garage sale to clear out their mom’s house, but they decided to keep a few things including mom’s old creepy painting of a woman passed out in a chair and two men trying to revive her.
Fast forward to their estate auction and the brothers found themselves fielding bids from France and Germany for the painting.
Turns out it was a long lost Rembrandt that ultimately sold for $1.1 million.
A trained eye spots value where others don’t.

40 days of twice daily taunting from Goliath sent Saul and the Israelite army reeling in fear. But David’s passion for YHWH, conviction, and full persuasion stirred King Saul.
When people are on fire for God it often provokes others to glob on to that fire.
But we must be careful to resist the well-meaning overtures of the flame-less by-standers.
Saul meant well, but his armor couldn’t help. It would only slow David down.

Unfortunately, in the era of celebrity Christianity we’ve reduced the concept of ministry solely to what occurs in what is often little more than Sunday productions and performances.

The charges against Derek Chauvin, the former Minneapolis police officer who knelt on George Floyd’s neck for more than eight minutes, have been increased from 3rd Degree to 2nd Degree Murder.
Tou Thao, J. Alexander Kueng, and Thomas Lane, the other officers on the scene of Floyd’s murder, have now been charged with aiding and abetting 2nd Degree Murder.
The United States Justice Department and the FBI have also opened federal investigations into whether any federal laws were violated in George Floyd’s death.
The overwhelming majority of Americans agree Mr. Floyd was victimized by police brutality.

Los Angeles Mayor Eric Garcetti and City Council officials have announced plans to slash the city’s police budget by up to $150 million as protests against police brutality rock the city.
This is a trend that’s gaining steam all around the country.
Whether they realize this or not, they are playing into the hands of Marxist revolutionary groups who all share the common goal where: “liberation begins where America dies.”
This move further emboldens criminals to exact their reign of terror in some of America’s most vulnerable cities, which also happen to stifle 2nd Amendment Rights.

Attorney General William Barr said federal law enforcement officials have evidence that Antifa and other extremist groups have been involved in instigating and participating in acts of violence that have rocked the nation for days as riots have broken out following the death of George Floyd.
He said further,
We have evidence that Antifa and other similar extremist groups, as well as actors of a variety of different political persuasions, have been involved in instigating and participating in the violent activity. We are also seeing foreign actors playing all sides to exacerbate the violence.

During the preliminary hearing in the Ahmaud Arbery case, Georgia Bureau of Investigation Special Agent Richard Dial revealed Travis McMichael used a racial slur after three blasts from his gun left Arbery dead in the streets of the Saltilla Shores neighborhood in February.
Based on his review of the evidence he testified Ahmaud Arbery was the only party who legally attempted self-defense. Special Agent Dial said,
Mr. Arbery's decision was to just try to get away, and when he felt like he could not escape he chose to fight.
“Then the LORD saw that the wickedness of man was great on the earth, and that every intent of the thoughts of his heart was only evil continually.” Genesis 6:5 (NASB).

Historian Tom Holland has written a new book in which he presents a robust historical defense of Christianity.
The interesting thing is that Holland is an atheist.
In his studies of the ancient world, Holland writes, he realized something. Ancient civilizations were utterly cruel.
He argued Christianity revolutionized the world. Arguments based on love, compassion, and justice borrow fundamentally from the Christian worldview.
Holland and other atheists shortsightedly ignored human depravity. Now, being confronted with evidence of a post-Christian world, they’re recognizing their error.

Many cities across the nation are literally on fire now as rioters, looters, anarchists and all manner of regressives have taken to the streets, growing out peaceful protesters’ voices.
I’ve never heard of anyone fighting for justice by beating up a store owner, stealing Luis Vuitton purses, or killing police officers.
With thousands of people gathering in the streets all across the country has the coronavirus been cancelled?
If dictatorial governors will allow rioters to gather in large groups, can small businesses re-open?
Can the American people go back to church now?

This message is to the Body of Christ. Following the depraved killing of George Floyd at the hands of Minneapolis police officers its alarming to see how quickly many professing Christ-followers have rushed to tweet, post, march, respond and engage absent The Cross of Christ.
Jesus told us the source of partiality, hatred, murder, theft, and violence. They all stem from the depraved human heart and there is only one remedy for that heart-centered sin sickness.
Cries for justice, void of The Cross, rapidly descend into the pursuit of vengeance.
“And seeing in the distance a fig tree in leaf, he went to see if he could find anything on it. When he came to it, he found nothing but leaves, for it was not the season for figs.” Mark 11:13 (ESV).

From a distance, the fig leaves gave Jesus the impression that there was fruit on the tree. Upon closer inspection, the tree was fruitless.
Perfect church attendance and ministry activity cannot replace actual Christ-like fruit produced in our lives.
From a distance, it can appear as though we’re bearing fruit but what would we find with a closer look?
Are we content with fruitful appearance or do we yearn for the real thing?
