From January to August, North Korea-affiliated hackers accounted for more than 20% of all stolen cryptocurrency after stealing more than $200 million in crypto during that period of time.
Since 2018, North Korea appears to have stolen more than $2 billion in crypto through more than 30 attacks.
The aim? To fund the communist country’s nuclear weapons ambitions.
North Korea is struggling with severe economic distress as it labors under international sanctions, which include bans on financial services, which are largely intended to curb it’s nuclear pursuits. So it has turned to Crypto-Heisting as a funding mechanism.
