Dr. Jessica Peck: When your child is with you, do they have all of you or just your physical presence? Ephesians 5, 15, 16 calls us to live carefully and make the most of our time. In a distracted culture, presence is a gift. Being present means more than being in the same room. It means showing up physically, mentally, emotionally and spiritually. Physically put down your phone. Make eye contact. Mentally listen instead of planning your next response. Emotionally, notice what your child may be feeling and stay engaged when conversations get uncomfortable. Spiritually, be attentive to opportunities to pray. Point your child toward God and model a life that depends on him. You won't be perfectly present every moment, and that is okay. What matters is creating a pattern of connection and returning when you've been distracted. When your child needs you, will they experience you as someone who's simply there or someone who is truly present? Think about it. I'll see you on the Doctor Nurse Mama show here on American Family Radio.
